This is a great video. Probably the best do it yourself track saw. What would happen if you eliminate the stop block at the very front where you would start the cut? So instead of plunging into the cut you would go straight in. Would that compromise the integrity of the track saw or squareness of the cut?

ОтветитьExcellent work. Thanks
ОтветитьVery nice but spend a couple extra bucks on non-skid pc for underneath so not to use clamps. Super job.
ОтветитьI love the 4 sidedness. I will incorporate that into my next track saw. One thing I did with mine was to put paste wax on the bottom to help it slide, but I also cut 1 1/2 in wide strips of 220 sandpaper that keep it from sliding when I put pressure on it. Basically eliminating the need for clamping it down. (I do see the oxymoron).
ОтветитьWhy not buy a rail?
ОтветитьI like your concept and support on both sides of the circular saw base as that will prevent any wandering however when cutting a full 8 x 4 plywood sheet the jig then is too short if making it from a 8 x 4 sheet. How does one get around that?
ОтветитьVery good design, very simple and is a great tool to keep you saw aligned for the amateur woodworker.
ОтветитьThose old Skil worm drives are indestructable.
ОтветитьThank you for put this video together. It was just what I needed for a simple yet very well designed track saw guide.
Ответитьpeople making their track saw usualy don't have wood router, that's why making guides on a router is unfair suggestion))
Ответитьhere's the problem as i'm sure someone has said. you can't start making a guide that is paramount to be straight with a track saw brother. if ppl are here to cut straight and make a jig, why on earth would they also have a track saw?
Ответитьexcellantt
Ответить🏴👍
ОтветитьBah. Guys who build ‘super simple’ stuff like this have way too much time on their hands. I could have serviced the brakes on my car in the amount of time it took to make this stupid thing. Jigs have no business being this complicated.
ОтветитьTime to knock out some of these. I wonder if there is a way to allow you to combine two 4' ones into a giant 8' track - like you could add dowel through one stop block that fit into holes in the base. That makes it removable. Then remove it and make the cut line all the way through that end. You can then join two open ends to make one long track. To keep the sides fixed across the join put an extra set of peg holes either side of the end outside of the cutting trough and position your stop block across the join. Or just have another longer stop block that's going to provide greater alignment. Probably best to build one long 8' track, drill all the holes and then cut in half so you know the pre-cut track is precisely aligned.
I'm also going build one of these with a 90-degree guide on the bottom (to one side of the track) for making perpendicular cuts. I usually use a framing square but I think this would be better for those cases when the blade binds unexpectedly (like hitting a knot) or if you're cutting from one end and your saw tilts a little off horizontal leaving a cut that's only square in one dimension - that's my biggest frustration with circular saw cuts. Seems like since it is the sides of the trough that guide the saw you could just set a 45-degree angle on your saw and cut back down the track both ways so this be used for miter cuts too. It might make alignment a little more tricky, maybe add a block you can place across the trough with a precise mid-line? Or if that's pain then just have one for 90-degree cuts and another for 45-degrees (or whatever angle you want) but honestly I don't think it should be necessary.
PS. I haven't done this - designing it in my head - but I'm definitely going to give it a try.
I love it , so simple, I'm going to make one tomorrow. thanks
ОтветитьGREAT no need for aluminum tracks!!!
Ответитьthanks for this simple idea
ОтветитьYOU COULD TAKE A BAR OF SOAP AND RUB THE SLIDE DOWN GOOD AND THE THE SAW WILL BE A LOT EASIER TO PUSH ! ❤️
ОтветитьYup, I'm building one like this. Thanks for the idea! Going to do an 8ft one though.
ОтветитьBetter than the one I watched previously
ОтветитьWhen u use this or any track, do u cut dead center of the cut line or off to one side or the other?
Ответитьgood to know what the holes are for, previous vid didn't explain that. This looks optimal for a quick diy, and doable even with only 1 of the 3 fastening types you used.
ОтветитьI don’t know dude, reducing the cut depth by 3/4 inch is pretty dramatic to me, considering that you have bracing on both sides and ends, I think you can use a 1/4 base, that’s what I’m going to use, great idea for the build.
ОтветитьI really appreciate your video. I live* in a farmhouse as a caretaker and it sure it hard getting by with the little that I have. You helped me save alot of money and time with this project thank you
ОтветитьIt's amazing
ОтветитьIt’s definitely gonna come in handy 👍👍
ОтветитьGreat tutorial,, Is it also possible to saw at 45 degrees?
ОтветитьDo you like my "Parallel Guided Power Saw?" seen on you tube. Do you wish to join me to manufacture it. On the video you may see some pyramids I cut with my saw, which cannot be easily cut with another saw.
ОтветитьIs this the best?
ОтветитьIs this the best?
ОтветитьThis is awesome 👍🏻 Thank you for sharing this
ОтветитьThis the best diy track saw I have seen. I have 3 different saws, I may try to modify one side to be adjustable to accommodate all 3 saws. Timothy
ОтветитьGreat idea wow❤
ОтветитьFantastic video!! Thank you!!
ОтветитьSo simple but incredibly effective.. All done without welders, vacuum systems, planes, and major equipment which most of us don't have..
ОтветитьTHANK YOU!!! I’ve watched tons of track videos and the person uses 3 other tools to create what should be a simple project but only if you have a router set up and a jigsaw too.
This I can do and it doesn’t involve me having other saw stations set up first. Great video and explanations.
This is really nice !
ОтветитьSimple easy make mate, it didn't take me long to make
ОтветитьGuys, what do I need the holes for? I don't get it
ОтветитьVery good simple design! I would suggest to use melamine coated board for the base plate. Very low sliding resistance makes it work even smoother.
ОтветитьI like the design. I'm curious if it would be possible to leave the end block off of one end and figure out how to join one more of these together with this one for a continuous 8 foot rip jig. Not sure how to join the two together.
Ответитьbest DIY track saw video yet. All the other ones basically cost almost as much or more than just buying a track saw. this one is affordable and easier. Thanks!!
ОтветитьI've had a single-track saw guide for years. It doesn't come out of alignment often, but it certainly does sometimes. This causes not only a bad cut, but the blade grazing the guide. This of course greatly decreases precision. I've Sharpie marks all over the damn thing where I've grazed it so I don't line my cut up with those parts. Your double-track design will be a great improvement. Thanks!
ОтветитьYesterday I made this, but at the end I got really excited and forgot to put the ends on and cut down into the jig😞 instead I once I had the side rails on and it was sliding well I just cut through the board and ended up with two pieces😂 I was able to save the day remeasured and put the ends on, and it works great. I might make another one if I ever get extra plywood.
ОтветитьCheap & basic! I like it
ОтветитьIs really needed when you can just hold one side of the base plate of your circular saw against a straight edge while making your cut?
Ответитьeasy peacy
