For anyone to be against Orcas eating whale calves, they have to be a Vegetarian, or a vegan first before saying anything against this. There are more Humpback whales around than Orcas, since there are 135,000 humpback whales, and only 50,000 Orcas left in the world.

Fun fact: there's no thing as "alpha male" in killer whales' society! The leaders que the pod are ALWAYS the females, the matriarch is the eldest female, then the rest of the pod is composed by her sons and daugthers with their offspring. Depending on ecotypes, populations, etc., (as example, Bigg's killer whales) female killer whales will leave their mother's side to form their own pod. Creating their own matriline! Sometimes even males will leave their mother's side, however, that doesn't mean that they will never interact again.

Has a humpback calf ever escaped an orca or is there no escape

Would love to see a pod of orcas getting torn apart mercilessly and brutally, I have no sympathy left for these animals anymore, I hope they are wiped to extinction.

I was going to say if it was a pod of humpack whales then the baby would have survived but even 2 adults couldn't fend off the orcas' attack.

minor nitpick, there is no 'alpha male' in an orca pod. orca pods are matrilineal and lead by the grandmother. every orca born in the pod will stay there. (they'll meet up with other pods in their subgroup to mate - the males never meet their children, but the males born into their own pod will stay there forever and help raise their sister's or aunt's children.)
