Had one , drivers constantly crashing and no fixes helped. If i get a replacement card would it be fine on a 850w psu with the 7800x3d ? I dont think the issue was the psu but i wanna be sure

I'm a year this month owning an xfx merc xtx and it's been great and only getting better. With the new fsr 3 mods coming out and afmf on some titles, especially older ones, it just keeps getting better. I expect to happily own this card a few years.

It’s an amazing card I have the gigabyte model the reason why I got it was because I didn’t care about ray tracing. Changed from a 3080 and the performance uplift was crazy. Even though the core temps were stable the hot spot if I leave it on default while playing returnal goes up to 110c which too high and the power consumption is too high. As much as I want to support AMD I will have to go team green again in the future .

I love my ASRock Taichi 7900xtx but there are problems with older games based on PhysX technology. Batman Arkham Asylum drops below 30 FPS, GPU is paired with Ryzen 7 5800x3d. I don't know how to solve it. Is it possible to run older Nvidia GPU as a PhysX card only?

i am upgrading from 1080 ti to 7900 xtx. An old beast to another beast. I an so excited looking at the charts going by the prices in the local market 7900 xtx is only 100 dollars more than 3090. and 400 dollars less than 4080 super.

Yikes in some games the 7900xtx 1% lows almost drop to the same as the 3090. That would make for a jarring experience

Bought this exact same model 1 year ago to replace my 3080 (lacking VRAM at 10GB playing uw 1440p, shame on NVidia!)
Really happy with it, didn't had issues except the high "desktop consumption" for a few months, and very very few drivers crashes
My main gripe is that the cooling on the chip isn't really well done, sure average temp rarely reaches 70C but at 65C+ the hotspot tends to be +30C hotter at 95C+... Bad contact I suppose. This means fans have to work hard, so I dumped the VBIOS "Quiet" mode
Then the RT isn't great, in Cyberpunk I have roughly same RT perf than I had with the 3080 (but in raster it's +40%!), and PT is unplayable. But this is only an issue with a few very RT heavy games
But overall performance is stellar, even if it come at a cost of 420W+ power consumption at max PL +15% !

To nitpick a bit on specs, yes the 7900XTX mem speed is a bit slower than on a 4080S, but the bus size is 384 bit to 256, so texture rate is faster at 950GTex/sec to 800 on a 4080, this may explain why the 7900XTX is a bit faster than the 4080 in rasterization in some games

You can't measure power draw this way, it will increase with a faster GPU causing more CPU load.

Ah you were doing good til you pulled an epic fail by referring to anything Asrock makes as trusty your using amd I applaud for video esp since it shows younhave a brain and are not just blindly given g the asshats at team greed $$

the choice of kingston for ram is also excellent since they not only have good products but they are one of the very few companies to not just have excellent warranty but thatbhave stood behind such for all of the decades I've worked with them and never once failed to fix a problem

The use of an idiot inside home heating appliance could even be forgiven despite the fact that they are massively lagging behind and are way past having lost their edge and it's mostly due to their own hubris

That said do yourself a fav.. get a decent b650 mb (I cannot recomend this latest gen tomahawk sadly as it failed to kep up with prior gens of such.. but gigabyte has their ax or aorus with excellent power sections avail) and a 7800x3d along with 6000 beast 30 cas ram

Oh and note as for VGA partner asus is good as well as sapphire as a rule. XFX is still excellent as a rule though they still sadly have failed to setup a canuck RMA addy (even the total fukwits atbasrock barely managed that though such wont even begin to save them they are indefinitely blacklisted for their actions. While their mb hw can be ok theiy are a disaster in every other way so much so they make PC chips look like Asus at the top of their game) but you should also mention to avoid power color video cards their hardware is mesh at best but what's worse is their warranty and CS being a major failing.

Anyhow just a few notes from an industry OG

;)

It's a tough decision but for me the value to performance AMD wins . What sways me is the fact that i play single player games only and love the high fidelity that ray tracing brings. FSR and DLSS are great tools for upscaling but native is where it's at in most situations for me. If i played competitive games lie COD and such I would go with the AMD cards because it's raw power and frames so the lower cost AMD wins.

24gb of VRAM, 3200mhz+ boost clocks just by clicking a single button in the AMD Adrenaline software and the $1700-$2000 4090 being the only card with better raster, I'd say this is a damn good card and great high end value. The latest versions of FSR and AFMF are really doing well and these cards are seriously heavy hitters in todays gaming world. Why there is so much hate, I'm not sure. I feel like people root for cards like they do their favorite football team.

One thing about current gpu's is what happened to blowing hot air out of the case? Now it just dumps it inside towards the motherboard and the case door. If there isn't much clearance on the top of the GPU because the case door is blocking air flow you have a real problem. Not to mention you better have some good front to back air flow in the case to keep everything cool. And hopefully you have your m.2 nvme drives covered with a heat sink or it will burn them up since they sit right under this thing.

I had massive issues with the early drivers for my 7900XT. FFXIV as an example would just crash every single time I tried to run it until the 23.7.1 drivers so for the first 6 months it was unusable for me and I switched back to the 3060 I had. After that release of I have had no real issues, some stuttering in some games due to the drivers but the normal fixes usually worked (DDU or rolling back to the last stable non-stuttery driver). Just as an aside I have had to do the same thing to fix stuttering in games with nvidia drivers as well so all the problems ive had with AMD drivers are not unique to a specific vendor.

I will always stand by my stance of the 7900 cards having come out 6-9 months too early. The idle power draw wasn't fixed for 9 months after the card came out and the drivers were super unstable for me for 6-7 months after I got my card. That just keeps feeding the meme of AMD drivers suck and we could all benefit if AMD didn't give people ammunition in that way.

I'll make it easy for you:
If Raytracing/Production matters to you then choose Nvidia. If those things DONT matter to you, go with AMD.
Currently on a 7800xt with zero driver issues. Going to be upgrading to the 7900 xtx in a few weeks.

i also bought this card about 2 months ago for my new build. Honestly the 4090 is just stupidly priced for the average consumer! and yes I could afford it but I dont think a card like the 4090 should cost another thousand for just a small jump in performance just my opinion. I have had zero issues with this card runs like butter, super quiet, use it for DCS dont really care about DLSS, FSR works great for me! and ray tracing yeah its nice but is it an xtra $1000 bucks nice? not for me lol
