I’m not here to argue, just genuinely curious if the officer is within legality to shoot him in the back as he’s clearly attempting to escape. It sure appears he never showed any intention of pointing his weapon at the officer if it was in his hands? (I assume it was if he had just fired shots into the air?)

I think the shot up dude tried to hurry up and put the rifle away before the officer saw it, even though the officer obviously saw it.

I'm trying to put two and two together... And I know exactly what happened. The second the police showed up while he was armed, He went from being in a good mood to being absolutely scared, realizing he was in significant danger. He fled because he was genuinely afraid of being harmed by the police given that he had just been found outside firing an assault rifle into the air and he froze up. I think that's exactly what happened. His instincts took over knowing that he was in serious risk of being harmed. Like he just went straight reptile brain because fear took over and when that happens you can't even think
