The Kirk Newman Art School Post-Baccalaureate Program is in its seventh year, and more than 50 artists have completed the program.The nine-month residency is designed for aspiring artists who want to grow and strengthen their art practice in a supportive community, with access to professional studio facilities and guidance. At each of these ARTbreaks, KIA guests will hear from the KNAS residents about their experiences and artistic pursuits. Attend one or all three.
Elise Head graduated from Western Michigan University with a double major in French and Political Science. Head’s sculptures explore the topics of grief and depression using the body as well as senses such as touch and smell.
Alyssa Rainwater earned her BFA at Grand Valley State University. Rainwater is an oil painter, interested in using self-portraiture and environment as a catalyst for exploring emotion and memory. Warping space and color, her work explores a heightened visual reality, based on individual perception. Photography resident
Emily Walsh is a graduate of Kalamazoo College, where she received a B.A. in Theatre Arts and German Studies. Walsh explores the theme of lenses — both physical and metaphysical — in her photography, and she endeavors to collect images that evoke a sense of curiosity in regard to what we cannot see beyond the limits of the framing.
