Electric mowers are great, but they're all about the batteries. Bought a Kobalt 80v 5 years ago, no oil, gas, almost no maintenance, but the Kobalt batteries are expensive. If I was buying today I'd get something like an eGo.
ОтветитьLast comment is BS.
ОтветитьLove my Toro Smart Stow. Had a Craftsman 60v but the grass got so thick that the Craftsman couldn't handle it. Currently have a 19 year old Echo trimmer but also a small electric Ryobi trimmer. I use the Ryobi in the yard and the Echo out in the tall grasses.
ОтветитьMy briggs and straton lasted 20 years….. zero maintenance.
ОтветитьHere's a idea, why not just buy artificial grass and have someone install it, after all we talking about NO MAINTENACE PERIOD!!! LOL
ОтветитьI'm seeing this for the first time, and I have to agree.....
"I remember back in the day when there were only 3 on the shelf!"
hahahah, yes, the good ol'days when lawn mowers were admired in store.....
Wishing you and your family a Happy and Blessed 2025!!!!!
Two main reasons to go electric. noise and fumes and a possible third is weight .. and a the forth is you don’t have to go get gas but yeah you pay extra for the all those conveniences .
ОтветитьIs it just me or do the big corporations along with some paid “users” seem to be pushing electric over gasoline powered onto the masses? As long as this takes place, I will not buy. It is my choice, my decision. If and only if it is cost-effective and it benefits me, I may buy some electric and have both. I’m the customer. I get to make the decisions, not all the battery electric pushers. You’re paying for the power to mow your yard whether it be gasoline or electric. You pay for the electricity to charge these high-powered batteries. You pay when the electric motor eventually burns up. Lithium batteries fail, faster in heat. If people would simply change their oil and use non-ethanol fuel, they would have far less problems with their gas powered equipment. Trust me, I’m a small engine, mechanic, I know. I’m not worried about my business going south as some who may read this would think of me. If that were to happen, I’ll find something else to do. I’ve done it before.
Ответитьwhen you compare yearly expenses of gas vs electric. it's a lot cheaper to use an electric mower.
ОтветитьIf my mower didn't make any noise, my neighbors wouldn't know it's time to mow their lawn.
ОтветитьI usually love your videos but this video is not balanced. Saying it will last 10 yrs vs 5 yrs is totally dependent on use and maintenance.
ОтветитьI love ur channel. I bought a echo weedwacker and honda lawn mower watching your vids i also wanted the ariens snowblower 😂 its such a shame that gas powered equipment is going extinct 🥲🥲
ОтветитьIt's not the gas prices on the rise it's the price of mowers on the rise. I bought my old push mower from Walmart 4 years ago and it was $100 now same crappy push mower is $250. That's why i went electric
ОтветитьWhat about electric with electrical cord... We had one on the late 80s
ОтветитьYou are so right! I am older and wanted an electric push mower. I bought one back in 2018 and it was one of the cheapest Ryobi. It worked well but was so hard to push because it was not self propelled and so I didn't use it much (plus the lawn never had a stick on it). I then bought a better self propelled one in 2023 and accidentally ran over a not so large stick. I couldn't find the correct blades and also it broke the plastic parts that hold the blades on it. I could not find the parts that hold the blades on ANYWHERE and Home Depot; where I bought the mower said they couldn't help me because they didn't carry the blades of the parts that hold it on. $800 down the drain and I only used it for a few months in Maine Summer. Warrantee was run out by the time I figured it all out! I got done killing myself out there trying to keep everything mowed due to my fulltime job, bad back, bad feet and when I am not working it is RAINING! I then bought a JD z turn... not the greatest move but it has been working so far and has a lot of power. It doesn't lift the grass so I find that I mow twice a week and up and down then side to side... Also I did buy another gas push mower and I am using that for the "hard to reach areas". I didn't know which Zturn to buy and was buying it on credit so went for the 24 month no interest and will have it paid off before I buy my next better one; hopefully with the same offer!! But your video helps because you hit on some points. What is supporting the blades and how it is made is important as well as every point you hit on. I will look to see if you have reviews of the zturns but I want to know what they are made out of as well as all the other work you did here. Thank you for the hard work you did and it really was an entertaining video also.
ОтветитьBought an EGO mower 2 yrs ago. Mulching? No problem. Bagging? No problem. Thick wet grass? No problem. Cut quality? As good as my Toro that died.
No gas/oil to store
No yearly maintenance
No belts or trans to worry about since it’s direct drive
21 once wide cut is big enough for my lawn
So with your list of 5 myths, what’s truly mythical? That cost of ownership you mentioned is, because it’s a calculation of purchase cost, not ownership cost.
theres no way to trace those nationwide stats about how long gas or electric mowers last- this is america you make up whatever agenda narrative you want, its called freedom of speech.
ОтветитьI have a new Toro lithium, it sucks, drive wheel fell off in 2nd hour, battery shorts, and on-line Toro will not take it back. They do not take items back if you use it for 1 minute! Their rear left geared wheel unbolts itself from the bracket, it self destructs! Two others have the same problem. Their repair dealer literally told me "with Toro, its Buyer Beware". I have a Toro case number, a BBB case number, and a US Consumer Product Safety Commission case number. Save yourself and learn from my mistake, and stay away from Toro.
ОтветитьI had a gaspowered lawnmower. I dont know if i had a really bad constructed one but for 900$ you would expect it to be one of the best. Every single time there were issues despite meticulously maintained. especially after 2 years. so yeah i am not a fan of gas powered. Not only that i had the same issue with a gas powered plow. 2500 dollars for that one ( because i have a lot of clay in the ground) just 1.5 years and it completely died. So that is 2 examples of where gas powered PLUS gas prices shot up by 25% on average over 3 years so there is that 2. perfectly maintained. brought both of them into 3 different shops to see what was wrong with them. so yeah. I had my fill of really bad gas powered equipment.
I used to go full electric extension cords and having hundreds of acres it took a lot ( not all lawn maybe 5-8% is lawn) so i went with battery powered tools. I cut heavy very thick pine brush about 2 miles and i still have a third of a battery charge ( 2.5 a/18v) left. No hassle with cables, looking out that you do not cut the cable and so on and so forth. Ditto with gaspowered but i have either had really bad luck buying gaspowered or....
Idk where you got that electric mowers last 5 years while gas last 10 years belief from but seems like a pretty subjective opinion
ОтветитьStill own a 2001Craftman lawn mower with Honda engine.
ОтветитьI need one that is electric, even if gas is better- so which one is better from the electric :)
Ответитьi went with a corded electric mower. they are cheap and the cord is mostly cheap to replace.
ОтветитьOn my third battery lawnmower, first two were lead-acid.
ОтветитьIs funny i have a Craftsman lawnmower from 2005, that I have never changed or added oil to it lol.
Still runs like a champ. Have only replaced the blade twice.
My Lawn-Boy 2 stroke mower just expired after 22 years of start-on-the-first-pull reliability. Bought a power propelled Toro 21" 60v electric to replace it. It's nice and cut's my lawn on 1/2 of its battery charge, but I can tell just by it's lightness that there is no way it's ever going to have 22 candles on it's birthday cake.
ОтветитьI have been sticking with EGO products and have no complaints. A great feature is that all the products can use all the batteries. I can't say if that goes for most of these companies or not.
Ответитьcan someone help me and tell me if it is worth buying a lawn mower Solo by AL-KO 548K ???
ОтветитьBrought to you by Chevron :D JK... but seriously just the low-maintenance alone is worth getting electric. Get a couple batteries and you're fine.
ОтветитьGetting your energy from coal power, while is certainly dirty, is still vastly VASTLY more green than a gas powered four stroke engine.
ОтветитьWhen I was a little boy and I’m 57 now a neighbor across the street from me had a corded lawn mower.
ОтветитьThe middle class household pays the price once again.
ОтветитьMy 54v black&decker lawnmower with a brushed motor lasted over 10 year's still going 46inches blade I live on a small farm in portugal with fruit trees
ОтветитьMy Honda mows a half acre on a quart of gas, you do need to drain and replace about 12 oz of oil once a year.
ОтветитьIt’s all preference IMO. I went to Ego and recently went back to gas, with a Honda HRX. I find I enjoy the maintenance. I like to tinker and spend a ton of time in my garage and lawn. The Ego feels like a toy to me now. I’m close to selling the Ego trimmer and grabbing a Stihl. Whatever blows your hair back. I’m sticking with gas for now.
ОтветитьGreat video. In the past (till quite recently) I've been very pro-battery-electric, but I'm seeing benefits to gas more and more. While gas takes more knowledge for maintenance, there are boatloads of professionals out there who have the knowledge, and you can take your gas mower to an array of qualified people who can do maintenance and repairs for you. I just called half a dozen places that maintain/repair mowers, all do multiple gas mowers brands, none do any electric mowers. But, with battery electric, if it doesn't work, you need an authorized repair person for that specific brand, and all parts for that specific brand. Depending what brand, or where you live, you might be out of luck completely for timely affordable service. If you have serious problems with a specific brand, you're trapped, because you've invested in compatible tools, batteries, & chargers. Moving to a different brand is very difficult. With gas, you buy the best mower, and don't worry if it's the same brand as your other tools.
ОтветитьWARNING: Battery operated tools are for California compliance only, nothing else. In California, most properties with lawns are under HOA's or sprawling condominium/apartment complexes that are professional managed. They have contractors that mow lawns daily for a living. Battery operated tools need regular use to get your money's worth out of them. A regular homeowner in middle America that uses their tools occasionally will be very disappointed at the lifespan and performance of the tool. Any store in anywhere else in America is just stealing your money by selling them to you.
ОтветитьBought the Ego 56v. The machine stalls out in even slightly heavy grass and the battery dies after about 20 minutes- not long enough for my average size lawn. After 4 uses I will list it for sale after I take delivery of the gas powered machine I ordered. No more battery mowers for me unless and until lthey demonstrate much better reliability.
ОтветитьI have a cheap €200 B+D 2x18v mower for 8 years now. Small garden and it works like a charm. Wouldn’t want to change it for a gas powered one.
Nice video with pro’s and con’s.
You content is great! love the video.
ОтветитьWhat the hell are you talking about ? I bought my Greenworks, 80 volt 21" self propelled mower at Costco. It is a bagger, mulcher and side discharge. It came with two batteries a quick charger that will charge the 4AH battery in less that 45 minutes. It also came with an extra blade. It has a speed adjustment to set your pace on the fly. All with an eight year warranty ! Four years from Greenworks, and an additional four years warranty from Costco ! My lot is 150'X180'. When I mowed it, it used 20% of one battery. You can put both batteries in the unit at once so you don't have to stop to change batteries. It just switches over to the next battery automatically ! It has no problem cutting tall wet grass. No bog down what so ever. It has a "turbo" button that pushes more power to the motor if needed. I've never used it, even in tall wet grass. The price I paid at Costco was, $499.00 ! Maybe you should use some of these mowers before you put your mouth on them !
ОтветитьGreenworks batteries must be damn good if they are willing to give a four year warranty, and Costco up's the warranty to eight years ! That's unheard of ! By the way, they also give a four year warranty on the machine itself. Which Costco has kicked that up to eight years as well ! Now, that's called standing behind your product !
ОтветитьCould you be any more biased? Try being less subjective.
ОтветитьI love my new EGO 2135SP! It’s absolutely incredible! And I have a larger yard and need more power! EGO delivers! It replaced my 21 year old Silver Series Lawnboy with a 6.5 HP 2 stroke engine. The EGO outperforms it. 👍🏻✌🏻💙
Ответить3 riders and 10+ self propelled mowers over 45 years. I rarely changed oil. All lasted 10+ years until replaced. 3 snow blowers covered that same time. I'm retired Voc. Instructor Electronics and high end commercial projectors/simulators/military weapons systems. My gut was/is repulsed at battery yard equipment.
ОтветитьJust priced a Toro 30” Timemaster electric……2399.00. Not sure many homeowners are ready to spend that kind of money for a lawnmower
Ответить3 gas?
ОтветитьGas in my state is 4.49 a gallon for regular, and around 5 dollars a gallon for premium. For me, keeping up the status quo is not even a consideration. I'm choosing to slowly switch over all of my outdoor power equipment to battery, and hope to sell my gas equipment. In my research, I've decided Makita looks like it makes the best OPE, considering the tools are made in Japan. I know the batteries for them are through the roof expensive, but they will still cost me less then gas costs in the long run. Great video!
ОтветитьHonda gone. Best mower.
Issue with gas is they now use many plastic parts. Do not hold up as well. But electric also plastic. Gas motors also do not last like in the past. Honda maybe but again gone.
Just in my personal experience over 25 years, Briggs & Stratton are the worst engines out there, I have never had a good product with a B&S engine. I really miss the days where I could go to Home Depot and pick up a Lawn-Boy with a Kohler engine. I need a mower now and will probably be getting the last of the Honda HRN's at my local HD. Just found your channel and have been watching the videos on the Honda mowers, very informative and I have learned a lot, thank you for the content! Subscribed.
