Can you blame them? The Bears have a poor history since end of the Super Bowl era (1988). They have had a handful of playoff appearances (7?) in the last 37 years. On the rare occasions where they've had a talented QB, they failed to protect them. Things appear to have changed with the talent upgrades to the line this offseason and a new head coach (who actually should be a head coach). And Williams appears to be a terrific player in the making. But the ownership is the same and any direction the team takes is still determined by them. Bears fans have endured a lot of mediocrity for a team that is in the nation's third largest market and is a cornerstone franchise for the NFL. So, I don't blame Williams and his dad if they were seeking alternatives to playing here. Glad it worked out the way it did, but one decent offseason isn't enough to change the direction of the Bears. It will take an ongoing commitment to winning on and off the field and doing many things that often go unnoticed in building a great team.
