I think I payed 90 to 130 to see the Indy GP from good seats too!
ОтветитьRegarding diversity: totally agree, we need F1 to be accessible to a broader range of competitors as well as fans and potential team personnel. F1 could do more in terms of going to a new place and promoting viewership AND the sport itself among the public. Azerbaijani drivers? Why not? A lot of the inclusion hinges on Driver Academies, with the likes of Red Bull having an Indian driver in F2, and Ferrari pushing to have female academy drivers, hopefully they will do more. BUT we should not forget that we already have 3 Asian and a Hispanic driver on the grid. We had a driver of African descent as recent as 2017, we had a lot of Japanese, some Indian drivers, diversity was there. Now it's about ensuring when such drivers come into sport, they can be competitive.
Regarding number of races: it seems to me that we are influenced to a certain extent by the era of F1 we started out with. I started watching in mid 2004, back when the norm was 16-17 Grand Prix a year, and that's the most I would take, 20 was too much, and now we're heading towards 24...
Great episode, love the show! Thank you Spanners, 23 races (22 races currently) is never too many! I do see the other side of the argument though.
ОтветитьGreat show but just had to comment about new fans vs old fan controversy as there is nothing wrong with new tiktok or Netflix fans but what causes lot of the rift online with these two groups have to do with new fans with very little understanding trying to redefine F1 to older fans based on their prejudice as we know since Lewis started to support BLM; millions of racist fans joined all the social media to trash him with irrational reasonings calling him names that I’ll not repeat here like we know when someone’s calling Lewis a name that’s used for dogs and apes so that’s why the idea that old fans have issues dealing with new fans is a bit whitewashing what’s really taking place in so many social media sites where thousands of these fans have no business poisoning Formula 1 with hate especially when you consider how champs like Fernando, Seb or even Max behaves with so much privileges saying whatever they want and not getting called for it while most old fans I would say are patient; we try to deal with this new group but truth be told I got many fans suspended for saying all kinds of wrong and hateful things that shouldn’t be tolerated in social media or real life while Tiktokers are part of the problem as they care more about likes and clicks then what their racist followers do on line while I recall several shows from Missed Apex that dealt with this issue but again I’m not gonna give new fans a free pass when they misbehave; the fact that our intervention gets interpreted as some sort of old bullying the new is for the most part a misconception
ОтветитьI watched these podcasts for about 2 years and with every episode I got more aggitated by the British fanboyism from Mr. Spanners. You make a podcast that you want to have success internationally and if someone has a different opinion (even though very good points are made) Spanners rudely cut them off or tells them they are wrong. Yes I know it's not 100 % serious but in a podcast that you want to be recognised internationally you can't be rude to your guests who are much too polite to say anything about it.
It makes you a graduately unlikable character over time.
I'm Dutch and I love F1. Not only Max Verstappen but the whole of F1 and I watch for about 15 years now and I'm of the opinion : May the best driver and or team win.
I can cheer as hard for Charles as for Max this year when they do well and see them fight fair and hard and the outcome of that doesn't matter.
That should also be Dr. Spanners feeling when you want to have a wider audience.
So, sorry but I'm off and I know I'm not the only one that thinks this way. When I talk to real F1 fans and ask them about these podcasts they all say the same.
Too bad because I think this concept could be much more successfull when executed better.
I wish your guests the best and hope you think about this and if not... also good but don't be surprised your growth stagnates.
You need to know the circuit names at 1. MONACO 2. INTERLAGOS. 3. MONZA 4. SPA 5. SUZUKA 6. SILVERSTONE 7. IMOLA
ОтветитьGuys, what's the music introducing the show?
I tried to Shazam- it but nothing comes out. Is it a custom track for the podcast?
Thanks
A comment on the gatekeeping of fans on social media. It's not just F1. Every sport is getting like that. It's a social media thing. Every sport is getting like this because of the nature of social media.
ОтветитьGood episode. I joined your Patreon group last year, but I have not been following F1 this year due to the farce ending of the 2021 season. After having watched F1 since the 1970s I refuse to now waste time on a “sport“ where are the rules are irrelevant. I will continue to support you on Patreon, though because of my appreciation for what you’ve done for the community over many years.
And please never apologize for speaking the truth. Social media has unfortunately legitimized the loudest fringe voices, but intelligent viewers need to continue calling them out for what they are.
By the way, can you comment on how the collective F1 media appears to have colluded with F1 to whitewash the entire 2021 season? I can’t remember how many times I’ve read stories stridently insisting that Max Verstappen is a “legitimate” champion. If you have to go out of your way to say someone is a legitimate champion then you know it’s not true.
Is the media afraid to state the truth because they are worried about losing access to F1? Is it in their contract that they must say whatever Liberty Media tells them to say?
