Kratos was always the god of hope. He just needed to see it in himself.

You can see Kratos gradually let his guard down as it becomes apparent to him that this stranger doesn't actually know him at all and may just be a lost belligerent asshole, especially around the point where ineffectual punches fly and Kratos is just fed up about the trespassing. So Kratos gives him a mighty wallop by mortal standards and assumes that the stranger will take the hint, and even helps him back up as a show of goodwill.

And then the stranger reveals that he was also holding back godly strength, something Kratos didn't even realise he had. That's possibly one of the few things that could scare Kratos, that someone could successfully trick him into underestimating them.

If Baldur “cant feel anything”, why does he keep making those noises when he gets hit?
