High quality stuff!
ОтветитьGreat idea for a video and well done. I'd be interested to know how much of the performance gains come from driver optimizations and how much comes from higher core clocks. Do you have a way to measure if the core clocks were "enhanced" over time through the drivers? Maybe with HWinfo64 and watch the effective clocks and all that? I don't have an RDNA 3 GPU so I'm not sure of all the various clock metrics that can be measured.
I know this wasn't as much of a thing back in the days of static clocks, but nowadays with the boost algorithms and base/boost/game clocks it can matter a good bit over time if clock behavior is modified. I know Nvidia had to do something in the drivers when Ampere released regarding clock behavior. If you have a 4080/4090 I'd love to see this same approach of oldest drivers versus newest drivers!
When people say that AMD drivers are bad, no one believes. This video is proof of it. Some increases in FPS are massive.
At least Intel admitted it, and they are not calling it a feature (fine wine), just as AMD does.
It takes several years for AMD to fix their drivers (best example Radeon 200 and 300 series bad from the start, 'fine wine' never helped). In many cases, after 2-3 years, you will no longer own the same gpu, so buying an AMD gpu for their 'fine wine' marketing gimmick is nonsense.
Not sure about the fine wine thing, remember, wine is rotted grape juice, but as a XTX owner this is good.
ОтветитьI haven't had my 7900 XT all that long. But, I've seen some stability and frame rate improvements. Not that it was ever slow... I mean, freakin 240Hz 1440p is almost easy for it.
ОтветитьDownvote for the Intel juiceguzzler.
ОтветитьThis is true for Nvidia as well, but the problem is that Nvidia stops giving you performance improvements the moment your GPU is not current generation.
Ответитьthis was interesting
ОтветитьIf AMD would fix the shimmering affect FSR creates I might consider using again. The shimmering was so distracting to me, I quickly removed the AMD card and installed in my sons PC, maybe he won’t notice it
ОтветитьAs someone with AMD GPU, i have heard that these drivers suck, but i think what they actually mean is skill issue, because i haven't had driver issues.
ОтветитьJust looking forward to my Rx 7900 gre
ОтветитьI've used exclusively Radeons since my first XFX HD 4870 1GB back in 2008 and I've never been disappointed. I currently have an ASRock RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming OC (my first ASRock card) and it's just incredible!
ОтветитьI... didn't expect such an increase in just over a year. That's surprising and very very disappointing in a way. Because yes, that seems to match much more to what they advertised in their first keynote on RDNA3.
Good work, Nicolas!
PS. Did they fix their idle power issue? I know they addressed it early on in the lifecycle, but would have been nice to see it compared here too. ;)
Honestly these results are pretty good especially considering the Pulse XTX is over $500 cheaper than the cheapest 4080S here. On release the XTX was 30% faster than a 3090 and now its 40% with the higher tier Vapor X and Taichi variants being a further 10% faster than the other variants so 50% over a 3090 for less than half the price of the release price 3090 is pretty good imo.
I paid $3250 for my 3090 on release and the Pulse XTX is $1389 right now with the XTX being 40% better performance wise, even the extra price of the TUF ($1500) its still $400 cheaper than the 4080S while performing around 15% better in raster. I would go for the Vapor x or Taichi which are the best variants so we are looking at around 50% better performance over a 3090 and around 20% better than a 4080S in raster for $300 cheaper here. Vapor x is $1550 and the Taichi is $1600 so depending on which one you go with its a net saving of $300 to $350. RT and DLSS aren't worth $300 to me personally.
Talking about drivers I've had nothing but issues with my 3090 with Destiny 2 TFS update while my mates rigs (6800,7800XT, 7900XT) run it perfectly fine, my system crashes while their rigs charge on. I don't put much stock into the whole AMD drivers are bad comments, most of the issues are user error upgrading from Nvidia cards and not removing old drivers properly. I've sat and helped people fix their issues and 99% of the time its due to not removing Nvidia drivers properly or outdated chipset drivers or both. I tell you I feel like a numpty for not buying a 6800XT instead of this 3090 because my friends 6800 is absolutely fantastic for the $610 price tag.
Great card, runs insanely cool and undervolts like a charm.
Some games have software-based "light" raytracing which AMD cards can handle well and since the 7900xtx performs similar to the 4070ti in terms of RT I think it will remain especially performative in the next few years.
same model same card here.
Ответитьdoes anyone notice a significant performance jump between am4 and am5 with an xtx? Im on the fence of jumping on am5
ОтветитьRay tracing on the 7900XTX is only considerably better than 3090 but does not best 4070ti or above cards in ths regard. Though Raytracing is really useable. Especially up to Medium or even High Settings depending on the game. Also in some Games even Ultra works just fine. Although it has to be said that usually ultra Settings create the by far biggest performance gap for 4080 and 4090 cards vs the 7900XTX.
My last card was Nvidia based and i was happy. This has been a really nice upgrade until now and I think it will age better than a 4070 something and even the original 4080 and the rest was either too late or too expensive for me.
Both team Red and Team Green have been good to us for decades. Pricing has just gotten off the rails with the RTX Cards ... especially the 4xxx Series. 3070 and 3080 clearly have too little RAM so they were not that awesome too.
In the end. Competition is better than many fans let to believe and competition is good for both camps.
Just what. Needed
ОтветитьI love AMD, but they've really shat the bed with the rx 7000 gpus. Mine at least seems to have lasted a year or so, now I'm getting daily driver hangs on idle for no reason, temps are also out of control. It's going back to the retailer, hopefully get an RMA otherwise I've wasted about 1000€s. Wondering if I should get another amd or bite the bullet and buy nvidia (which I hate due to anti-consumer stuff).
ОтветитьThank you for comparison
Ответить79xtx I just got for 800usd cheap runs good so far
The driver's for my 69xt 4yrs ago where just shit however even my a770 had better drivers
What are your thoughts about the result? 🤔😅
Fine wine or fine... milk? 😂
