ОтветитьCan we add a seventh chord of the VI degree to make a more jazzy feel
ОтветитьVarig... Varig... Varig
ОтветитьDumb question: why do songwriters change keys in the middle of a song??
ОтветитьHow about a suspended 4th chord?
ОтветитьNice video. Comfort food to a jazz guy!
Did I hear “the lick” in your twelve-key improvisation?
5/5
ОтветитьI’ve heard more 2/5/1’s in Mariachi music than Jazz music.
ОтветитьThe Song “Cielito Lindp” by Mariachi Vargas de Tecatitlan has a lot of 2/5/1’s.
ОтветитьIncredible. It’s all just magic to me until you break it down in videos like this. Thank you.
ОтветитьThe above illustration is a good example of why to be wary of fake books. The C# diminished under the C in the first measure is certainly not in the original and a horrible clash unless you get off the C as quickly as possible making it only a quarter note. In the second measure the D# diminished works with the C but not with the F. Better to use Richard Rodger's original chords.
ОтветитьI've written music, but.. I will never understand music.
ОтветитьLadies and gentlemen, Babysteps
Ответить:)
ОтветитьExcellent lesson! Subscribing. Thanks!
ОтветитьWow, this is the first video ever to actually explain wth this annoying ii-V-I is mentioned everywhere while I couldn't figure out why. As a chord progression for a song it is quite boring but in the context of Jazz and Key changes, it is highly useful and I now understand why every musician always talks about it!!!
Thank you very much for this amazingly clear tutorial.
You should also do the 3-6-2-5-1 jazz chord progression video! :)
ОтветитьNice work with that progression at the end! Curious, how did you chose the 12 chords in that order? Just random?
ОтветитьEvery jazz chart ever...
ОтветитьI understand, but I don’t
ОтветитьAfter the i (Cm) of the ii V i on Summer in the City, what is that type of walk they're doing? A Line Cliche? Its C, Bb, A, Ab (the music not lyric melody)
ОтветитьI like the way you show the music and the chord changes and play the examples it makes it easier to see exactly what you’re talking about
ОтветитьThe intro literally gave me a bruno mars vibe ngl
ОтветитьIs there a formula or can we move to key regardless of using the circuit of fifths or Fourths?
ОтветитьBasically this is jazz.
ОтветитьYour videos are fantastic!
ОтветитьElectric Light Orchestra - Sweet Talkin' Woman
ОтветитьHey! Can anyone tell me if there is a system in how David jumps from one key to another in the improv at the end? Like are there certain key changes that sound better or more natural and is he doing these „nice“ key changes or is he just wildly jumping around the circle?
ОтветитьIf you want to hear ii V I take it to extreme you should listen to Tong Poo by YMO
Ответитьplays every key
LOL WUT?
Surely the II chord will feel awkward if the preceding chord isnt somewhat linked
Ответитьi really appreciate your further break down with real world applications like reel jazz standards and lead sheets
ОтветитьThat last music piece that you played was really cool and smooth. I really enjoyed this lesson and it helps a lot in understanding why this works so well and how to use it more effectively. Thank you David for all these great tips and lessons.
ОтветитьI noticed how a good number of pop songs simply loop a 2-5-1 chord progression throughout the whole song, and I always wondered why. This actually explains a lot, as well as why it's so common in jazz songs.
ОтветитьActually, the 2-5-1 progression is the backbone of just about every pop tune of what has been referred to as the classic American songbook from the beginning of the 20th. century.
ОтветитьWhat about ii7 V I ??
What about ALL the possibilities??
Lonely boy, niel young, ii V6 I
David, I enjoy your content. Your improvisation was neat to hear. Since you do so well at breaking down music theory in pop composition, I’d love to hear your explanation of what is going through your brain during improv. What parts are on autopilot and what are you thinking about as you play. Does your brain say “flourish the melody up at this point and your hands automatically find the notes in key? Do you “feel” each note?
ОтветитьJuke Jam Chance the Rapper is a ii- i V-i kinda 251 but broken up I think...thanks for the lesson
ОтветитьSalam Santon mt pagi akak..maaf kami hanya kesal ,apa yg ,uami laqu kan .selalu tidak, diberi nya man .dah makasih wasalam
ОтветитьSuperposition chords 😮
ОтветитьI was really hoping to hear about There will never be another you by Chet Baker cause it's full of 251s but maybe on another video 🙏 the rest is just amazing and the demonstration at the end is wonderful !
ОтветитьAnother brilliant clip to give us ideas for our songwriting. Thanks for the free lesson!
ОтветитьThis video is a mastercalss in why eoodshedding onvtwi five ones through all twelve keys is likely tge bestvway to develop asa musician. Thanks you so much for yiur patient and thirough oedagogical approach.
ОтветитьWhat about I ii V, like the university challenge theme tune?
ОтветитьThanks David! And the improvisation in the end was fantastic!!
ОтветитьLet me know your favourite example of a 2 5 1 chord progression in a song!
