Iam not a tradie but have used marine ply twenty odd years ago in uk it did what it said on the tin and held up well on a garage roof. I did a little diy project in Philippines recently, the shit they are calling marine ply is a joke top layer peeling while fixing it. Utter rubbish from china, they supply 99% of building materials over there most of it pure shite.
ОтветитьI have two for breakfast with sugar and milk.
ОтветитьYou should talk to the Ship Happens people they are using marine ply but Im really not convinced it’s the most suitable.
ОтветитьHe resembles tony cascarino
ОтветитьOSB used to be cheap as chips,
ОтветитьGreat until any of the OSB getting wet, like when the house is getting built.
ОтветитьWhat’s that got to do with heat pumps haha you are getting good with them heat pumps cost you a packet talks.
ОтветитьOSB takes the resin a lot better too
ОтветитьAnd thats why I fully floored my brother’s loft with OSB. Boom. 😅
ОтветитьOSB is cheap cos its crap! 🤡🌍
Ответить😎👍🏻
ОтветитьOSB is a pain in the ass for when you have to screw close to the edge or corners, the chunks are usually in such a way as to divert the screw into its weakest point usually cracking the edge, only solution I can think of is using extra batons to stay away from the edge, I could pilot hole the edges but that’s extra time. I suppose OBS is superior still though
ОтветитьRoger.. Your advice in your field is unsurpassed (along with Robin Clevitt). You should both be the Governments' Building Tsar's.. 💯%
ОтветитьId call that chip board
ОтветитьI built a shed from OSB it was just a quick build for storage but it lasted 20 years before the bottom parts started to rot. This was in the UK so it's done very well
ОтветитьI represent a Brazilian plywood Manufacturer you need to Specify EN636-2 structural. UKCA 2+ you are talking about non structural mainly Chinese with A type 2 non exterior glueline
ОтветитьWe sell 18mm 7 ply from Lavrasul
ОтветитьMake sure you have health insurance when you see the current price of marine ply 😂
ОтветитьUK: WBP - Weather and Boil Proof - Refers to the glue used and isn't always indicative of quality plies. I designed and built a 6-bed timber-frame house, on site, as the American method, and used OSB3 for all the sheathing.
ОтветитьI built a garden shed and was advided to use 18mm OBS3 for the flloring. Treated both sides with wood prreserve. The floor lasted about 1 year when one day my foot went through it, rubbish for this job. I re-planked it using tanalised 150 x 18mm Fencing Boards. Great job.
ОтветитьBuilt yachts for years using composite materials such as GRP! You should always use osb3.
ОтветитьFlat roof manufacturers would tell you not to use flat roofs, if it wasn’t so bad for their business
ОтветитьDon’t use initials. Some of us have no clue what you’re on about !
ОтветитьSo that's why they used that.
ОтветитьI use SP101 Indonesian ply for laying over my overlay underfloor heating. It's a bit expensive but it doesn't de laminate.
£60 plus vat per sheet off 9mm !!
What is your take on MDF as i cannot stand the stuff. I do like Marine ply and if i can get it on the cheep then i will get it as wood is so dear to buy it . Just hate MDF big time .
ОтветитьThe ply wood i just bought from a big store is absolutely rubbish. I sat it on a table next to the shed after around two hours the sheet of plywood was warped badly, and there is no way i can use it for the door i was going to use it for. Absolute rubbish.
ОтветитьI boarded a long dormer roof with wbp plywood, the roof dipped and failed because of the voids and poor manufacturing and glue. The only thing I use it for now is van shelving, osb all the way!
ОтветитьHE was much better as the emperor in star wars that home improvement TV.
ОтветитьOsb is great if u love getting splinters !😂
ОтветитьI had an extension done 5 years ago when a gulley was put in place to adjoin two roofs. OSB board was used and fibreglass on top. It was discovered a few days ago to be taking in water and the edge of the board has blown and when you press down a small amount of water comes out. What is required to fix this problem please. Is it repairable or does it need complete replacement? Please advise?
ОтветитьPlus you get the added bonus of longer rain protection in the OSB if you get caught out in the lovely British weather
ОтветитьWhen I was a specialist membrane system installer I always used OSB unless the customer specified plywood, if that was the case I would use marine ply for the very reason of delamination, that was almost 20yrs ago now, I dread to think how much those sheets cost nowadays😮
ОтветитьI used marine plywood for a drain cover. It lasted about a year before it started to delaminate. I thought I was being clever!
ОтветитьNormally this guy gives hoax advice, but on this occassion he is wrong. OSB is very bad.
ОтветитьThat stuff is crap. It doesn't hold up to the elements like plywood.
ОтветитьOSB
ОтветитьMy dad bought some sheets of supposed marine grade ply a few years ago to use on his wee boat. Was properly installed, but due to illness, the boat hasn't been near the water. He wasn't very happy to see it all delaminating within 18 months.
ОтветитьGood plywood beats the shit out of OSB all day, everyday.
Ответить1986 we built a two storey shop inside an empty railway arch in Essex……. It leaked and we dealt with the water with polythene…..
We built the whole thing from OSB which I recall was termed Sterling board back then(?)
We got sneered at, but it worked brilliantly with sawn 4x2 framing to support it 🙂🇬🇧
maybe don’t build a house out of cheap shit americans
ОтветитьIs it better to use small sheets or large sheets of OSB for a GRP roof? My supplier said small sheets area better because they allow more expansion???
ОтветитьI always thought it was a heat issue causing delamination with ply. As ive only seen it happen on epdm
ОтветитьWhat are you on about , people use marine ply building boats . They DO NOT USE OSB . Yeah kinda explain that then ! That’s personal and commercial construction of boats using the same GRP enclosed method ( fibre glass over wood )
ОтветитьOh really, no voids? The rain goes through it like a sieve when I was building a roof.

I disagree, plywood is better product ,but osb is cheaper
ОтветитьI live on, it's stronger ,it's cheaper and it too can be water proofed. Ironically, your walls and floors are made out of osb but not traditionally roofs., both plywood and OSB can delaminate if wet so it doesn't matter. Use good wrap and you'll be fine.
ОтветитьZip system is nice OSB but it’s going to cost ya
ОтветитьOSB aslong as you keep it dry
ОтветитьOSB hates water. But actually it loves it as it absorbs it and then warps and turns to weetabix. Total sealing is required, but is not always possible to achieve 100%.
