Iam not a tradie but have used marine ply twenty odd years ago in uk it did what it said on the tin and held up well on a garage roof. I did a little diy project in Philippines recently, the shit they are calling marine ply is a joke top layer peeling while fixing it. Utter rubbish from china, they supply 99% of building materials over there most of it pure shite.

OSB is a pain in the ass for when you have to screw close to the edge or corners, the chunks are usually in such a way as to divert the screw into its weakest point usually cracking the edge, only solution I can think of is using extra batons to stay away from the edge, I could pilot hole the edges but that’s extra time. I suppose OBS is superior still though

UK: WBP - Weather and Boil Proof - Refers to the glue used and isn't always indicative of quality plies. I designed and built a 6-bed timber-frame house, on site, as the American method, and used OSB3 for all the sheathing.

I built a garden shed and was advided to use 18mm OBS3 for the flloring. Treated both sides with wood prreserve. The floor lasted about 1 year when one day my foot went through it, rubbish for this job. I re-planked it using tanalised 150 x 18mm Fencing Boards. Great job.

I boarded a long dormer roof with wbp plywood, the roof dipped and failed because of the voids and poor manufacturing and glue. The only thing I use it for now is van shelving, osb all the way!

I had an extension done 5 years ago when a gulley was put in place to adjoin two roofs. OSB board was used and fibreglass on top. It was discovered a few days ago to be taking in water and the edge of the board has blown and when you press down a small amount of water comes out. What is required to fix this problem please. Is it repairable or does it need complete replacement? Please advise?

When I was a specialist membrane system installer I always used OSB unless the customer specified plywood, if that was the case I would use marine ply for the very reason of delamination, that was almost 20yrs ago now, I dread to think how much those sheets cost nowadays😮

1986 we built a two storey shop inside an empty railway arch in Essex……. It leaked and we dealt with the water with polythene…..

We built the whole thing from OSB which I recall was termed Sterling board back then(?)

We got sneered at, but it worked brilliantly with sawn 4x2 framing to support it 🙂🇬🇧

I live on, it's stronger ,it's cheaper and it too can be water proofed. Ironically, your walls and floors are made out of osb but not traditionally roofs., both plywood and OSB can delaminate if wet so it doesn't matter. Use good wrap and you'll be fine.

OSB hates water. But actually it loves it as it absorbs it and then warps and turns to weetabix. Total sealing is required, but is not always possible to achieve 100%.
