Not to mention that EV owners pay taxes on that electricity they buy. Sure, it's not specifically earmarked for highway construction and maintenance, but it's still something that should be factored in. By the way, I think ICE cars should have to pay a carbon tax but, haha, yeah, good luck with that one.
ОтветитьThis is what we get for electing a president that thinks we should bring back the coal industry, thinks windmills cause cancer and the future of energy is oil....drill baby drill
ОтветитьEVS weigh 30 percent heavier than the average gas consuming car. Thus, more wear and tear on the roadways. Imagine EV tractor trailors with 16000 pound batteries plus the load. Roads and bridges aren't designed for these loads. Before anyone disputes this, I worked as a civil engineer for 30 years.
ОтветитьWhat if your all ready paying NJ 250.00 a year for gas tax when you register your car? Now it will be 500.00?
Ответитьwith paying 250$ a year in tax for an EV you are verry lucky. In Austria the Tax is based in the weight of the car and ends up at 500 to more than 1000$ a year while gas cars are taxed on wrong calculated co2 emissions and the weight is not important.
ОтветитьMost EV's have high tech and maybe you can charge based on actual federal highway use instead of giving blanket tax to all EV owners. I use FSD for all my drives and the exact route is recorded for all my drives. Most drives are city, except for vacation. If someone does not have the tech then charge a fixed amount. Have it automatically added to DMV charges.
ОтветитьThose people are stupid making ridiculous laws
ОтветитьHowever EV are very heavy and do more damage to the road , this why trucks pay much higher road levees
ОтветитьWhat about the billions subsiding oil. $750 billion in 2022.
ОтветитьNothing is more permanent than a temp gvmt program.
ОтветитьOf course it's fair. EVs have cost the Federal government billions of dollars to get as far as they have. And they are significantly heavier than the equivalent gas powered vehicle = more road wear.
ОтветитьAnother thing they forget to say is that EVs are generally heavier than a regular ICE car, the dynamics are just different, I don’t see why the EVs don’t pay more for infrastructure. I think we need more infrastructure for EVs. So it’ll eventually normalize.
ОтветитьI'll say it again get a HYBRID, best of both worlds !!! I get 60 mpg and i love it !!!
ОтветитьBut EVS are way heavier no? They damage the roads more than gas cars.
ОтветитьWell, since a lot of EVs got $7500 purchase rebates, they'll have to pay that extra $150/year fo 50 years to catch up on their federal gasoline tax and that doesn't even account for the time value of money. So,if we assumed an interest rate of 4%, the EVs would owe $300/year just in interest on their $7500 rebate plus the $100/year road tax and their balance due would stay fixed at $7500.
