Make Your Own Fabric Medium - Step by Step

There is an earlier video I did about making fabric medium. This video is a step by step process video that shows how to actually make it with Pro Chemical and Dye's ingredients.

If you have bought the 8 ounce sizes from Pro Chemical and Dye, here is the recipe for the plain fabric medium:

8 ounces of Lo Crock Binder
8 ounces of Transparent Extender
8 ounces of Fabric/Silk Extender

Mix throughly together. The Transparent extender is very jelly like and needs to be blended as much as possible with the other two extenders. I often start with the Transparent extender with Lo Crock Binder and mix those two together for at least 2-3 minutes with a hand mixer (first at low speed then at a higher speed). After I feel confident that the Transparent extender is well mixed, then I blend in the Silk/Fabric Extender for another 2-3 minutes. It will be frothy and bubbly which will settle down in about 48 hours.

If you want to make the Pearlescent Fabric Medium, add 4-6 ounces of the Pearlescent Extender into the Plain fabric medium mix from above (if you decide to split the mixture 50/50 you will only need 2-3 ounces of the Pearlescent extender). Start with the smaller amount first and see how shimmery it is first before you add the additional Pearlescent extender. A little goes a long way!
