LA Noire - Story Explained

This game is a masterpiece. Even in the year 2024 there has been nothing like it. The VR version is especially fun, as it really makes it like you're in the center of things.

I played this game when I was very young and always used guides to pass the interrogations cause I make Phelps look like a dumb in some, but also because the story got me so bad that I did not wanted to screw up just to keep seeing what happened. Amazing game.

First 3/4 of the game were brilliant. Flawed but brilliant. Last 1/4 is just terrible, complete nonsense.

Game has the weirdest facial animations of any game ive ever played. They were cutting edge for the time put they give such uncanny valley vibes. That being said, definitely one of Rockstar games most underrated titles.

Really love the fact that you offer a spoiler warning despite the game being 12 years old. I get really frustrated when I accidentally come across a spoiler for a game on my 'to play' list. Sometimes I only hear about a game for the first time 10 years late...

L.A. Noire was one of the last AAA games to actually try something new.

The ALICE packs being listed in the port authority ledger is anachronism, the Alice system did not come out till the 70s

Those Black Dahlia mission with Rusty were pure Gold. Especially the later ones, where the plot unfolds, and the killer send the taunting messages like BTK or the Zodiac killer.

A game has more scum in every language 😅

I always felt like making the main character of half the game into the guy who failed constantly in the past is kind of a weird choice, because it makes it not make much sense when he's so committed to seeing the cases through, instead of acting the same cowardly way he did in the past and taking the easy way out. Feels like it's saying "Yeah, he managed to become a slightly better man... so here, let us show you all the ways he F-ed up in back then, just to ruin that".

I was a kid when I last beat this game, I never realized how dark the themes can get.

Nobody was a hero in this game.

People who say Cole was a bad guy fundimentally misunderstand Noir as a genre, the ideal noir protagonist is a man with a sort of "instinctiual" moral compass.

Cole followed his gut in the war, and it got people killed. But he obeyed his own conscience, its also why he doesn't stop Roy from slapping Elsa or speak up against his fellow officers racist attitudes. He knows its wrong, but he just lacks the motivation to act on it. It's only by the end of the game, when everything has been taken from Cole that he is finally free to follow his own principles.

I'll never understand why the villains whose plot involves burning down a lot of houses, asigned Cole Phelps Super Cop to the arson department

I find it funny that being ordered to mercy kill civilians caused Jack to try and kill Cole but when it’s HIS idea to mercy kill Ira it’s okay

The themes portrayed in this game are too upsetting. I really don't like being reminded of them as it gets difficult to shut them out again. Didn't know much about this game before but from what I've heard so far it clearly isn't for me. Comment for Algo for you harry

He was a good man. In his pursuit for justice he was blinded by redemption. Feels like he kind of had tunnel vision which is kind of symbolic by the ending of the game

Man, it's sad what happened to the Bondi Studio as an Australian and someone who loved this game, it's a massive shame they won't continue this IP. A serial killer Detective game of this caliber was something else.

L.A. Noire is the first ever story i've heard where the main character is the Twist Villian.

This came out sooo long ago and facial animations still aren't close to being matched. Sure, they are a little ropey at times but the sheer expressiveness, and clearly the actors who they hired were putting their mark on the production, bringing these characters to life.

This Game jaa the highest level of immersion

I always felt that LA Noire's story-telling achieved what David Cage tried to accomplish with Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain, but Team Bondi did it better without sacrificing gameplay. LA Noire had a better script that had more mystery and intrigue, it had better facial animation, better voice acting etc. It was a revolutionary game that surprisingly fizzled out despite its initial success.

Due to funhaus, I will never think of this game as anything other than ‘The Idiot Detective’.

Honestly that recorded meeting always makes me angry. how many cameras did they have on them with how many cuts and new angles are used in it. You would have needed an entire movie crew on set to get the shots used in that "secret recording"
