You could be right that there is a sluggishness in the AP actions. A kalman filter is a common filter applied to noisy data points to smooth things out but it comes at the price of a delay. So it's generally not a good way to do things. And we are definitely seeing some undesirable imperfection in some turns although that might not be as simple as a kalman filtering.

Thanks! Good quality testing as usual. I hope they improve the lane keeping at all angles of the road ahead in the future.

Needless to say, that they also need to include a 'how far can I look ahead to see that the road is clear' feature in on of the next feature updates. Driving with 70 kph into a curve where you have no oversight of the rest of the curve is quite dangerous (as I seen on other test videos). Waymo have exactly this feature to determine a safe speed and why it should brake etc. It's also part of the rules in Germany, that you must not drive faster than your forward visibility allows you to oversight twice the emergency stop distance. I think a similar rule makes sense - I'm just not sure if the human reaction time should be considered or not in this equation.

The overtaking action is fine to me, keep the speed while changing lanes and then accelerate when the new lane is clear is okay to me. If the following distance is higher than 1 or 2, it might be somewhat more reasonable to allow the car to get closer... but overall a safer than human approach is better, since lane changes are quite dangerous.

Thanks Steven, very good video as usual. Also appreciate the extra work to remount the cam for showing us the lane distance.

Some of autopilot performance issues may be resolved by upgrading to AP3 which is order of magnitudes faster than AP2.5. For example, the S curves clipping corners seems to related to AI process delays from sensors inputs to physical auto steer execution.

About the rumor of AP1 lange changes being restricted on secondary roads: this isn't true. I just tested my AP1 car with 28.5 (now waiting on 32.2) and no restriction whatsoever.
Sorry if I was the cause of that rumor. ;-)

Is autopilot adjusting to speed limits?
If yes, is it able to "read" traffic signs?

When cars turn out of your lane into a turning lane or to go around a corner it does wait too long to speed up again ... perhaps in the case of a turning lane they were worried about those drivers that start to get into the turning lane and then realize that they are at the wrong spot and come BACK into your lane quickly?
