Excellent coaching. IMO - laser devices like a Strikeman are excellent practice tools and affordable. No recoil on them so you’ll still need to get to the range but less often.

1.5 seconds from open carry is a lot easier than 1.5 seconds from concealment.

I dry fire alot at home and when I go to the range I mainly practice draw to first shot. I go to the range at least once a month. I get a little bit of ammo every paycheck.

The biggest problem today in the training fraternity is the GUCCI WOKE crap. Ie, you get all dressed up like a DELTA operator and you run around after your ninja-looking instructor. The problem is you don't go shopping dressed up like that. Classes should look like an accountant conference. Grey man training, drawing from concealment getting off the X, reality-based training, that is what makes you a harder target

I'm a student AND instructor as well. This is the first time hearing ANY instructor say that "if you don't train with the best names in the industry, you're wasting your time". That's simply not true in my opinion. Like you said, set standards and expextations for yourself, get good info from good resources (like you) and start your journey

I think the most critical time for someone to seek out the services of a trainer is when they first decide to get a gun. I suppose shooting can be self taught for a few, but many new shooters who sign up for their first concealed carry class also come there to get their first lessons in marksmanship and gun handling because someone told them the concealed carry folks would teach them. In my state, it’s an eight hour course with a few slides in class on the fundamentals, then as much time on the range as it takes to shoot the qualification course once or twice as needed. Learning the fundamentals first is more critical than anything else. A good trainer will help someone get there in the early stages. Then go to concealed carry class.

I am in my 60s. I spent my working life in the Army. I have seen a lot of people trying to be like a spec ops operator. I have seen magazines emptied in seconds. Marksmanship? Not as much. Slow handgun courses of fire get you there to accuracy. After that, all things can be practiced and added. I was glad to hear you mention marksmanship before more complicated things. I got a laser trainer. That is an easy, useful home training aid. It helps.
