Theses are the best kind of RCR reviews, where the car is the vessel to the topic, not the topic itself.
ОтветитьI think another thing to consider about separating the artist from the artwork is to remember that their less desirable actions and or beliefs, bad as they might be weren't all they were. As uncomfortable as that can be to think about, there's nothing stopping a war criminal from being a loving father. A creator of beautiful adored media from being an abuser. Or a selfish ignorant team or individual from shaping some of their lifetime of joy, they did experience, into a consumer product intended in some capacity to invoke similar feelings.
ОтветитьCancel culture is a right wing conspiracy theory, its not real.
ОтветитьI passed one of these up as a first car in the 90s
ОтветитьEspecially pithy.
ОтветитьIn the context of watching Lizzo play the Crystal Flute and the backlash that the performance caused (and I don't give two shits about personality or the twerking), an individual of an oppressed era is able to take back their dignity and start to rewrite the narrative of the objects/art only with the consumption of the iconography of their oppression. Lizzo playing the crystal Flute was more about an individual who was highly talented being able to play a beautiful piece of art. To the same extent someone who is part of the LGBT community can buy a Galaxy and let that come to define them as an expression of success and style. To a level it can be argued (correctly) that the only way to right the past is to enable the objective to be separated from the context.
We can respect the history of James Madison as a founder, criticize his role as a revolutionary who was not willing to go the next step, and allow the objects of history to establish new meaning.
'63 was a good year for Ford even though we didn't get the Mustang til '64
ОтветитьThe injustice here is your description of the 60s as if it were no different than the 50s.
ОтветитьBECAUSE THE CADILLAC THATS SITTING IN THE BACK. IT ISNT ME. IM MORE AT HOME IN MY GALAXIE
ОтветитьI know you have this for period correctness. But why did you choose, out of any 60s campaign sticker, choose the Barry Goldwater sticker!? Dude... 🤣
Ответить"Cancel culture is mostly an excuse for people to avoid having to engage with context". At this point I'm not even sure if I watch this for the cars anymore. You're something else, my friend.
ОтветитьWhen I was younger I never knew the band Galaxie 500 was based off a real car. The car does not disappoint.
ОтветитьOh man. Love the car, love the review, and the historical context/conflict as always. You are a Connoisseur of the Vibe and I look at history and historical consumer products in a very similar way. I dream to own a '64 Galaxie in this color one day, and have for at least 10 years. BUT, I have lived here in Pittsburgh for over 5 years and plan to stay for much longer. These shots with this car in this city make me feel a certain way. Well done!
ОтветитьI can't even understand the name - Galaxie? I thought it was Galaxy.
Don't really care, just curious.
If you feel bad about owning a old Ford.. don't..just look down at your iPhone and think about the child slavery in China putting them together and in the Congo where they also lie about how cobalt is made for batteries, everyone's told its done with machines and not thousands of people doing it by hand ... guess what? Honestly these old ford's have a better build and labor history then anything made today
ОтветитьNope. The 1960s were x10 better than now. Those things were bad for a reason.
Nobody needs one of "them" lecturing us otherwise.
I would take 1963 in a second over 2023.
ОтветитьThe 74 galaxy is fugly but I’ve been considering getting it! It’s actually decent price!
ОтветитьI mean would the people of that decade support the current decade? If not then I think cruising in a galaxy and siping pina colada is care free! But if support then I guess get a Tesla pickup!🤢🤷♂️
ОтветитьI love Dave chapel lol
ОтветитьI mean the past was so excited for the future and the present witch was at one point the “future “ hates it self so imagine what 1963 thinks about 2023
ОтветитьBrilliantly narrated.
ОтветитьJust cuz you drive a car from the 60’s doesn’t mean you are responsible for all the evils of the world! I really don’t understand white guilt ! I didn’t have anything to do with slavery or the injustice of the past so I don’t feel bad for something I didn’t do and neither should you!
ОтветитьWhere did you shoot this video?
ОтветитьDrink every time the owner cuts someone off in traffic.
ОтветитьF the lgbq ! They need to die off!
ОтветитьThe lack of education leads to todays problems ! The Galaxie is a great car !
ОтветитьHe starts loosing me when he starts getting philosophical
ОтветитьWhat about Mercedes Benz? I'll never forget when a developer drove up in his 'n*zi red' G-wagon (his words not mine)
ОтветитьNow he owns one!
ОтветитьI had a galaxie 500 with a 390, unmodified. It would do 100 with ease and maintain it. I don't get how he is saying that it' s screaming at 70?
ОтветитьBro almost wrecked his Galaxie into a Chrysler 200 on camera
ОтветитьI'm looking at a 63 Ford Galaxie 500 hard top 4 door with a sweet V8 in it. It drives wonderfully. It's a cruise o matic unfortunately but it just drives so nice..
Ответитьthat's not true mr. regular, liberalism dates back as far as the 17th century.
ОтветитьOld cars are what allow me to get away from politics. Unsubscribed.
ОтветитьMy dad had one when I was a kid, hard top and dark blue, George Baxter drove a red one, Hazel was one big commercial for Ford.
ОтветитьI'm glad I'm not a literature or philosophy major because I can't imagine what it must be like to be so torn over something you like so much. I did go to college though so I was aware of a lot of people who thought like this, and it's hard to not buy into that mindset when you're surrounded by it everyday. My solution to avoid it was this: take things at face value and be as shallow as possible.
I like this car. Bad things happened in the 1960s. I don't care, I like the pretty car. No debate.
Another example would be the Ship of Theseus problem: the ship is the same because it's my ship and I said so. No debate.
You can either "deconstruct" everything into an endless mental cycle of madness, or just shut up and enjoy things.
DEEP
ОтветитьMy parents had a Falcon station wagon and blue Galaxy 500. My sister smashed up the back one day. My dad smashed up the front not long afterward. He still drove it for a while all smashed up until he got a Buick Special.
ОтветитьÉsos carros eran buenos
ОтветитьI was 15 years old in 73 & my 1st car was a 70 coupe deville w/ 500 C.I. The back seat was big enough for me & two girlfriends..Laugh if you want to but that car hauled A$$..We eventually took the bumpers off, unhooked the AC / power steering belt & raced it at strip..Not many cars came close..I blew everything off the track.
ОтветитьCame here for the car review. Stayed here for the casual modern philosophical commentary~
ОтветитьComing back to this after seeing Mr Regular building the Crazy Taxi is pure nostalgia.
ОтветитьGod Almighty, that is one beautiful car!!!!
ОтветитьUhg we had one when I was a kid. Hardtop with 427. Dad sold it cause gas went up to $1.50 in the 90s lol
ОтветитьWe have to be able to do things like stop apologizing constantly for the past and compartmentalize situations we have few choices in. Most stuff today is made with borderline slave labor in china where they have literally concentration camps with Muslims in them. We tend to have our blinders on in the age will live in but I doubt this era of consumerism will be seen the same by future generations
ОтветитьPITTSBURGH!
Ответитьsoft men don't understand the 60s. Hard times will fix that, and then you will embrace the early 60s.
