Furnishings make a house - to make it a home, add in photos of friends and family/vacations... books, artwork that you love, live plants, cozy blankets, candles, special momentos...Decluttering and clean is free! That helps too... good lighting, lamps, ambient lighting...and matching light bulb vibe (warm, cool, LED, etc.) also help.

I husband hates change so if I left decorating up to him we'd be living in a 1970's designed home. Love your comment about a person's fashion style. My husband still has clothes from college and they fit. We sold our home of 50 years to move closer to our son. Apartment life will allow me to replace some furniture items which are functional but no longer my style.

I agree. I got new furniture in our "heated" sunroom after 9 years of the same furniture. I love the new look so much & completely different from the other furniture. My favorite room more than ever!

That was spot on! ❤I divorced a hoarder who only wanted his boxes of stuff in every room and walkway including outside. I had one bedroom for sewing for a few years to myself in two houses. He didn’t want dust collectors or art up even though he was a hoarder. This has had a profound effect on me trying to reclaim my territory as I got the house and hiding my heavily artistic heart which he knew he was making me do. As nothing I did was right in his eyes, I’ve felt naughty and stressed for want of better words in letting out my decor personality.

I’ve left the upstairs rooms empty for now in my small home as I want to sell the house. I do a Wonder Woman twirl in those rooms to lighten the anxiety of going into our old bedroom or his lounge room. Being left with no money in the divorce I can’t change the old pink carpet or redo the orange timber floors which I screw my face up at every minute of every day.

I have done some painting and furniture updates, taken down large aviaries, fences, made some furniture, made over decor just before the divorce and graffitied my bed base that only I’ve slept in with positive phrases where no one can see. Slowly making a difference but what I’ve done has saved my soul so much and everywhere I look I see 6 things that I’ve personalised that make me smile. The best part is I’m not judging my work as I always did when doing crafts, just enjoying having my heart and soul on display.

Ashley, I asked elsewhere, but can you please 🙏 do a demonstration of how to stack fabrics, like the triangle 🔺️ on the coffee table? I dislike the karate chop cushion fad currently. Can you please demonstrate how to layer up a bed, integrate throws, and balance cushions in the lounge room with art etc, especially for eclectic collectors, who are also traditional, with hardly any money but likes antique old stuff but lives in a 1970s sharp edge house... so what do you think? What if the angles of your home 🏡 don't match your personality 🤔 ❤ thanks 😊
