The newscast was one hour at the time. In late December 1986 the newscast was reduced to 30 minutes and World News Tonight was moved to 6:30 pm. The timeslot change allowed Jeopardy to be moved to 7, but the schedule change would not be complete until the fall of 1990 when the station acquired the rights to Wheel of Fortune from WCBS, whose contract to carry the program was not renewed because of declining viewership. The show would air at 7:30 pm right after Jeopardy and this was the end.

This is one of the earliest newscasts in which Beutel was announced before Grimsby, unless this was the only such occasion.

A couple of clues Roger Grimsby was on his way out at WABC can be seen in Bill Beutel's name being mentioned first and Beutel opening with the top story vs. Grimsby in the past.

Also, Roger doesn't have a Circle 7 pin (similar to the last newscast for Van Amburg at KGO that August).
