NEW MUSIC MONDAY: TRS Songleader Jason Flatt met up with Rachel Chang, a longtime friend, Jewish musician, songleader, and educator working at the intersections of community, identity, and deep belonging. Rachel shares her melody for Kiddush Levanah, a blessing for the new moon.

As a queer and multiracial Chinese-American Jew, Rachel has spent years grappling with what it means to belong, to take up space, and to be heard in Jewish community, and she has found music to be an invaluable resource.

____________
Kiddush Levanah:

V’lalvanah amar shetitchadeish
Ateret tiferet la’amusay vaten
Sheheim atidim l’hitchadeish k’motah

And God said “Renew yourself, moon”
Crown to us all living beneath you
Destined to be renewed just like you
