My issue with modern Minecraft is the fact that things are simply too easy to obtain.

Diamond mining is almost a joke now a days and item farms ruin the rarity of items that really shouldn't be so easy to obtain like Totem of Undying. Villager trading has gone too far and looting structures is just way too common now. Enchanting should have a HINT of mystery and should give random effects (or at least not tell you in English what they are) to give a little bit of mystery and desterilize MC a bit.

When people say old minecraft is the best minecraft 9 times out of 10 they mean the 360/ps3 version

Things not mentioned:
World generation: Like come on it looked WAY better in beta than it does today.
Combat system: Minecraft combat always sucked but at least back then it was straight forward, wood sword 5 hits, stone sword 4, iron 3, diamond 2. Nowadays the difference is so minimal having a diamond sword doesn't really feel special, not even netherite does. "But enchantment" they suck... like yeah they are cool but getting and maintaining them fucking sucks ASS.
Atmosphere: To this day when someone sais minecraft, the style of 1.7.3 comes to peoples mind, the programmer art style, not the polished new look, it's lost a lot of it's charm (I know about texture packs don't even say anything.)
Zombies drop feathers, yeah I know it makes no sense, but they are an infinitely more valuable drop than rotten flesh which has exactly one super niche purpose despite being literally the most common enemy drop in the game.
Bonemeal instantly grows trees, no idea why they ever changed that, it was so fun. "but realism" it's a block game with zombies and skeletons shut up about realism.

1.6.6 is arguably better.
