I have a Russian model kit of that plane.
Ответитьthis plane had 13.000 km range just incredible for the 1937 era
ОтветитьThe destination of the ANT-25 supposed to be Limburgh Field in San Diego. However, all the airfields between Los Angeles and San Diego were socked-in by fog, and the aircraft was forced to divert. The crew flew inland to where the visibility was clear, and the aircraft was able to land in a cow-pasture in San Jacinto. A memorial plaque now marks the spot where the plane landed.
ОтветитьTremendous accomplishment.
ОтветитьI read that it was the only aircraft to do this without aerial refueling several aircraft performed earlier had to use aerial refueling and that Ant-25 record was not broken until the 1970s
ОтветитьThe field where they landing is still there and we have a anniversary gathering of people who where there when it landed. I live in San Jacinto.
ОтветитьDoooohh! MY BAD!! I correct myself, just google mapped it.. San Jacinto is there below MT S.J. north of Hemet. It appears that what is now Ramona Blvd and De Anza Drive might possibly have been an airstrip...any historians or old-timers..??
ОтветитьSoviet Spacemen?? I hardly think so.. Airmen maybe. Space implies leaving earths' atmosphere. Where are there flats that large, at San Jacinto? Last time I was there, "It" was a mountain approx 10,500 ft above sea elevation.. I dunno, correct me if I'm wrong.
ОтветитьI live in San Jacinto! Pretty cool to think a world aviation record was set in our unassuming town!
ОтветитьWow, considering the year, that is very impressive.
