oh my, she eats spicier food than me! I couldn't do Haidilao spicy pot at their chain restaurant in California. I was living in Chengdu, China when I was young, where a city is known as Everyone eats very spicy food.

I think the fact that red can’t seem to decide whether she wants to defy her mom or not might be on purpose, it’s just not written well.
If we’re gonna look at the relationship as abusive, you can see it as red being unhappy with the way her mother treats her, so she acts out and rebels, but is simultaneously afraid of her mom. So when she is face to face with her she has trouble standing up to her because she’s clearly toxic and a horrible mom. I just think that wasn’t show clearly in the writing, and so it just makes red look like an inconsistent character.
