I'd run science vessel wraith combo. She ended up beating me more often than not.

Its a good strategy..I remember doing that a lot when I played the original. Its a bit more difficult though when the resources are more plentiful... they upgrade and you cant rely on them running out of minerals lol. I still have all the original blizzard games in their original boxes and CDs.

I remember doing those challenges to myself when I was 14yo; but I kinda "cheated" by sending SCV to the enemy bases, attacking something once and then roam around the map towards the next enemy AI's base to attack and lure. That way I remember I delayed their farming and had marines going for their empty bases while their drones were chasing me :D good game, loved that! Havent watched a single video nor played the game for 20 years now lol

Would it be worth sacrificing a couple of tanks to get +1 marine attack and range early on? Seems there were more than enough tanks by the end. Maybe even science facility for a vessel?

I used 8 tanks, 3 bunker and depot in front to defense and computer know to use siege tank to destroy all the depots first,they know to use mutalisk and zerg queen to destroy siege tank and use zerg guardian to destroy the bunkers + missile turrets. Computers play so good nowadays :)

Come on guys weve all done the siege tank 1v7 as boys its a legendary play, lurkers and muta was also a thing toss was fucking toughhhh though

Luckily, you weren't attacked by flying units, like Carriers, Battlecruisers or "flying spiders" as my father used to say refering to Zergs... Otherwise you wouldn't have survived...
However, in my opinion, the most difficult map in Star craft 1, is "Hypothermia", where you are attacked brutally by all units, and it is impossible to play 1 vs more than 1 IA and win. I never made it, at least
