Cool as damage to those planes are , i am yet still convinced that Ukraine needs to go after Russian energy networks and producing facilities as long as they aren't nuclear. It's colder in Russia and Russia does it too so justified perhaps when civilians are left out in the cold some pressure can be applied to Putin to accept defeat.

The tyres on the aircraft are there to break up the profile of the aircraft in an effort to confuse AI controlled drones. Where possible the drones are controlled via the cellular network. However, as you can see from some of the footage the cellular network can suffer from lag, dropout, jamming and then the AI takes over.

But were those old planes even a threat? They were old, slow, poorly maintained, ineffective. They weren’t much of a threat in the first place. I think the west could have taken them out a few minutes after they took off in a war scenario.
