Purity tests?
ОтветитьNot bad. I usually see people bring the nitrate to molten then add the charcoal in portions, but this looks like it reacted quickly and cleanly. How is it people remove residual nitrate? Was it by adding a carbonate to make it less soluble? Or is it separated using acetone or ethanol?
ОтветитьI think you would get better yield if you ground up the charcoal & fully mixed the charcoal powder with the NaNO3: likely more even burn. Also try putting a lid on it to reduce oxygen from the air interfering with the reaction.
ОтветитьI still think the best method is copper,HNO3 and oxalic acid which forms NO2, and copper oxalate and this NO2 is bubbled into cold NaOH which obtains quite a good purity of NaNO2 with some NaNO3 contam. The copper oxalate can be cooked to form copper metal and the process can be started again.
ОтветитьCarbon dioxide can dissolve in ethanol better than in water, according to the order of magnitude of Henry's constants
At low temperatures and pressures, CO 2 exhibits low water solubility. The addition of EtOH as co-solvent contributes to an increase of CO 2 miscibility with water , leading to higher efficiency in the supercritical assisted atomization
Melting NaNO3 and adding a mix of iron filings and iron oxide will make it without the excessive energy of burning charcoal. Copper powder also works well.
ОтветитьJust tried this, unfortunately it did not work.
Followed the procedure, and worked up the product.
Added sulfuric acid to the product, and got a violent quick reaction that yielded clear fumes, as opposed to nitrogen dioxide gas that should be produced when reacted with sodium nitrite. This tells me I did not produce sodium nitrite as intended.
When washing the product off of my hands, I noticed a slippery sensation I associate with bases like bicarb/NaOH
I highly suspect I made sodium carbonate, or sodium hydroxide
Id buy that subscription box for sure 😂
ОтветитьI really like this method! If I needed it this would be the go to method for me. Before all the talk of controlling nitrite I bought a 10lb bucket. I honestly don't think I'll ever use it all either. Back then I had time for chem frequently but not so much in recent times. Great video man! The whole thing went smooth as butter!
ОтветитьOnly charcoal and nano3 ? Doesnt it need naoh to work ?
ОтветитьWhats the purity??
ОтветитьI wonder how much of that ended up as sodium carbonate?
ОтветитьMerci pour votre vidéo et votre professionnalisme dans le montage et l'originalité de la fin avec un questionnaire et j'espère que vous avez trouvé un bon partenaire à la hauteur de votre vidéo ! Honte à ce crétins ! Merci
ОтветитьThank you for showing the procedure for making and purifying sodium nitrite. It definitely helps in the preservation of meats.
