New original song! This one was a real pain in the ass to record. Took like 35 takes over two days, and I still didn't quite nail it. My intention was to write a song in the style of the Mountain Goats, especially the All Hail West Texas era.

Guitar is capo'd on 3rd fret but you can play wherever suits your range.
Verse: Bm Em Am Em
Chorus: D Dmaj7 G Bm

And here are the lyrics.

[verse 1]
midtown apartments
northeast 17th and Davis
you're never getting out of here kid
might as well face it

this ain't the movies
there are no heroes on the shelf
if they can do better
then they do better somewhere else

the day you figure it out
that some have greatness thrust upon them
fire will come from your mouth
and your wings will be as those of dragons

[chorus 1]
here comes the man
from the pacific northwest carpenter's council
utility van and embroidered vest
says "call me Dan" on his barrel chest

they say never wrestle a pig
because he'll like it, and you'll get dirty
well they say never wrestle a pig
only cuz they never met me

[verse 2]
if you want my advice kid
take the hand that you were dealt
pack it in salt, bury it deep
halfway to hell

if you must go to Sodom
at least you won't be alone
your choice kid
a life or a home

[chorus 2]
there goes the man
from the pacific northwest carpenter's council
utility van and embroidered vest
says "call me Dan" on his barrel chest

ashing his pipe
texting his ex wife
they keep in touch

it's a Folger's classic roast kind of life
good enough

do an old man a favor kid
don't give up

i swear to god things will get better
don't give up
