"Aw Train" not "Ow Train".
ОтветитьThe most awesome place ever…the people that live there are awesome 😎 too !!
ОтветитьMy hometown. I now live in Florida, but I go back nearly every year. Great folks, beautiful topography, wonderful fishing and camping. Nice Job on your video. Unfortunately you missed the peak of fall.
I saw a house we used to own and several of my friends homes. As a young man, I enjoyed a cabin on Miners Beach for many of my youthful summers before it became the focal point of the National Lakeshore. The area where Miners River joins Lake Superior and the sandstone cliffs give way to broad sandy beaches is magical.
Living there was wonderful, and I made a silent prayer of thanks each time I topped the hill and looked down on the bay. But barely making a living, with little prospect of a bright future, was the tradeoff for the beauty, adventure, and camaraderie of the area. That choice was one I would have happily made for myself but could not ask my wife and children to endure.
I live in southern Indiana near national forest. I've also been to the UP. One thing they have in common is lots of wooded national forest. It leaves no room for economic development. In this day and age tho, that's a good thing, and a bad thing.
ОтветитьI remember when I was a kid in the 60s Christmas had a black bear in a chain link fence pen you could buy a soda pop for it.
ОтветитьI love this.
ОтветитьAchieving fusion power would help these northern locales.
Sure, people might want a summer home there: Timidly, I suggest that, somehow, adjusting property taxes might help--then, the UP may achieve a tourist economy more akin to Colorado's, Wyoming,'s or Montana's (Vermont, etc.).
Push snowmobiling, ice fishing,, snowshoeing, x-country skiing, survival camping--put on crazy like minded, media-hog contests--get attention.
You don't see Moab, Utah complaining!
Face it: This is a tourist destination and economy--re-invent!
Go for year-round--but, do it right!
It amazes me how few people actually know anything about Je.wish people and anyone who takes issue is automatically bad. Read some history dude and if when your done you still think the people that run the news and the banks and the government and the biggest corporations and founded communism are good people then I don't know what to tell you.
ОтветитьSorry, but none of these places look economically depressed or having problems with poverty ,as you like to mention so often. Most of them look clean, neat, houses are taken care of. Not all America can be mansions and golf courses and no, not all Europe ( far from it) is palaces and castles and Norwegian colored wooden homes. When you guys that have geography and travel channels mostly focused on US( Geography King, City Nerd and others) like to focus so much on the " poverty" in US, sometimes with a suspect adamancy about showing it in the most unlikely places( Kyle from Geography King on his trip to New England, the wealthiest region in the world, went out of his way to show us that there is opioid addiction in Northern New Hampshire), you have to look at the things in perspective. You mentioneda town with 45k average income per year. That's more than in most of Germany. . So, rant over, I had to say it, otherwise great great video and content
ОтветитьMy wife and I stayed at a log cabin right on the lake just west of Munising, I'm not sure if she is still renting it out though. It sleeps 23 but it was just the two of us and we got a decent deal because it was in between summer and snow mobile seasons. We went hunting for yooperlites but didn't find any.
ОтветитьThe same scenery as northern Wisconsin. Winter also. I like to see God's creation rather than man made building. 😮
ОтветитьHuge rock cliffs along the Mississippi River. 😉
ОтветитьThe Dells on the Wisconsin River 😀
ОтветитьLike this series of travel , always learn something
ОтветитьWe took a detour on the way home from a Memorial Day weekend trip to Mackinac Island and drove along the Superior Shore before heading back the the Twin Cities (Minnesota.) One of our stops was Munising where we explored part of Pictured Rocks, visited some waterfalls and ate some pasties at Miner's Pasty Kitchen. Although we only spent a few hours there, we really were amazed at all the spectacular scenery. So much so, we plan on going back there specifically for a a getaway next summer. Definitely want to take one of the cruises around Grand Island and explore Pictured Rocks and more waterfalls.
ОтветитьIt’s pronounced a’ train
ОтветитьI'm from Zilwaukee MI, but I go to a cabin 12 miles south of Munising every spring and spend a lot of time in town. Love it!
ОтветитьThe Dairy Queen in Munising (west side of town on the highway towards Christmas) is the best you’ll find anywhere. Supposedly the owner deviates from the franchisee guide and substitutes local ingredients whenever possible. I have vacation property down near Manistique and the Dairy Queen is definitely worth the 35-minute drive when I’m there.
ОтветитьA hospital and nursing home, prison and paper mill are the bigger employers. Restaurants and bars.. Hotel work. Bowling alley for fun😂
ОтветитьEverybody's heard of Munising. It's just you man...
ОтветитьNice!! Footage!! I'm 906 Images on Facebook and Instagram. 906 is the area code for Upper Michigan the UP. One correction it's Ahhh train
ОтветитьToo much road video
ОтветитьFeels weird watching the drive I take to school every morning in the beginning
(The road between Christmas and the hill before browns edition is the worst in the winter when lake effect hits)
If I remember correctly, I went one July and was amazed to hear that the lake was 47 degrees F.
ОтветитьI highly recommend Scotty's Motel. Cute mid-century style and as it says on their card: "Voted #1 Motel**
**Named Scotty's" Gotta love it.
Enjoyed the video! I live in the Western UP, right on the lake in the small town of Ontonagon, but I am in Indiana for 20 days, and I miss my home and the lake. Notes...Most UP high school football teams have less than 11 players on the field...I think the 8-man team is the norm. Also, most Yoopers would not be offended by the label of "Flannel shirt wearing hill-jacks"...Pretty much what we are.
ОтветитьMoved to Munising 3 years ago, truly God’s country
ОтветитьGreat video Might I suggest doing another in mid-winter.
ОтветитьThis town is only 24 minutes away from a boy scout camp I used to go to. The camp was called "camp Hiawatha" also one day we took a 15 mile hike in the town to look at the 5 waterfalls in the area. There was another waterfall between alger falls and tannery falls but you had to pay to see it. Also we had a choice the councilors gave us we could either go out on lake superior on sea kayaks or take a 15 mile hike to see waterfalls. Also I'm from Wisconsin and camp Hiawatha is the only scout camp in bay lakes council that is not in Wisconsin
ОтветитьThank god for the brain drain
ОтветитьThe pictured rocks is awesome and beautiful with awesome markings .i like Munising mi
ОтветитьHhhhhmmmmm... I live in central Florida near the town of Frostproof
ОтветитьMy dad's family has roots in Munising, Au Train and points south and west. I spent countless summer days in the area when I was a boy. I still try to get up there every once in a while, for the beauty and the nostalgia. Thank you for posting this.
ОтветитьThe inside of the casino in Christmas is 100% Christmas themed too!
ОтветитьBringing race and racism in a video abut travel earned you a thumbs down from me. Very cringe dude.
ОтветитьWhat a prick.
ОтветитьL.O.L. Hope to get back up to U.P. pretty soon.
ОтветитьChris are you from flint mi?
ОтветитьGoggle rein deer games,1980s movie, takes place the up of mich,so,so,worth a watch, casino related!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
ОтветитьI grew up and have spent most of my life in the UP. It didn’t take long after I was away to realize how great the place was. When I got married and had a family I moved to Germfask, I wanted my kids to grow up here.
ОтветитьNO we don't want you here...go elsewhere
ОтветитьActually, the pandemic didn’t hit Munising hard. Whitmer did. :(
ОтветитьThe front and rear lighthouses work by alignment. As long as, from the ship's perspective, the two align together you are within the shipping lane and properly distanced from the shore.
ОтветитьWhy do you have to highlight the village idiot?
ОтветитьDad took us to Pictured Rocks and my brother went down the huge hill to the hole in the rock which we walked through to the edge of the deep blue water. It was a climb getting back up but we made it alright.
ОтветитьBeautiful
ОтветитьMost locals hate the indians and the indians only i dont understand why theres always so many of them but the take over the town in the summer and are notorious for many different things i wont get into
Ответить
