Transfigured Night - New project from Al Deloner (Midnight Choir) Label: Byström Records/ Musikkoperatørene AS (Catalogue-number: ALLP06)

Transfigured Night is a new duo project from experienced songwriter Al Deloner (Midnight Choir) and up and coming female singer Rikke Knudsen (Grexvocalis, Norwegian Youth Choir). They have taken their name from Arnold Schoenberg ´s tone poem "Verklärte Nacht." Rikke's voice is reminiscent of artists like Patti Smith and PJ Harvey. The music is vocal based and driven by soft guitars. Al Deloner ´s songwriter signature is intact in this project, as it was in the time with Midnight Choir and the solo period.
This is mainly Americana-inspired rock with a personal touch. The album has a certain country flair, and the smooth sound-production is "open" with a great "live" feel. The album is coproduced by legendary sound engineering Phill Brown (Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Talk Talk, etc.). The album was partly recorded and mixed at David Gray ´s London studio The Church. The recording of their debut album recieved great coverage in Dagbladet 25.01.12.
Al Deloner and Phill Brown has previously worked on Midnight Choir albums Amsterdam Stranded, Unsung Heroine, and Waiting for the Bricks to Fall. The rhythm section counts John Barry (bass) and Boss Næss (drums). The photo-session for the album artwork was held at Odd Nerdrum´s farm, Rødvik gård, in Stavern, Norway. Along with Al DeLoner (Atle Byström) and Rikke Knudsen, various art-students of Nerdrum pose as stand-in "bandmembers". Thus enforcing the general idea that Transfigured Night is a collective of musicians, a changeable line-up based around the two front-figures, Atle & Rikke. The cover shot was taken by Bork and Øde Spildo Nerdrum. The somehow mysterious gatefold photography runs back to circa 1871. It shows Al´s swedish grand, grand dad - Elias Byström - posing as the leader of a group of 10 girls, all equipped with musical instruments. Elias Byström, a deeply religious man, was later the founder of Larvik Misjonsmenighet.

The self- entitled debut album "Transfigured Night" was released on March 1, 2013. The album was released on 180 G gatefold vinyl, CD, and digital download.
