I was lucky enough to be educated on a large property in MD farm country where a Montessori school is situated. The emphasis was on having a relationship with nature. Hearing you talk about the forest brings me back to that hollow, spending hours looking at the old growth around the creek valley and following the trees to the edge of the next pasture over.
ОтветитьI really appreciate your long view of both the past and the future. When we take that attitude, we can be better protectors and participants in our environment.
ОтветитьThis man probably lives in the forest. It is good to have someone for a deeper input in foresting. Greetings from Lüneburg, Germany
ОтветитьAnother awesome informational discussion!
Ответить👍👍
ОтветитьI’ll never look at “pillows and cradles” the same way!
ОтветитьThis man is a national treasure, please replicate him .
ОтветитьAmazing, loved this series! Absolute eye-opener
ОтветитьI love this but hurts my heart knowing many trees near my home have came down rapidly within the last 15 years or so . Went from a tree city to sun baked sad . The weather and pests haven’t been good.
ОтветитьI have learned a lot.
ОтветитьWhatever this man is it's what i should have wanted to be when i grew up.
ОтветитьI've seen all these things. Some 50 to 60 years ago.
My new place has 40 acres mixed hardwood.
Now, I know a lot more about it.
Thanks
ОтветитьThe intro music is great on these
ОтветитьThank you for these
ОтветитьI'm learning so much! Thank you!
ОтветитьTW's prognosis for 1k seems unduly optimistic.
ОтветитьThis reminds me of walking thru the woods with my Dad. Such wonderful memories, everything tells a story.
ОтветитьThank you for making this!
ОтветитьThis is why need to be way more aggressive on invasive plants especially in urban and suburban areas to help keep our forest resilient in ct many woods lots are so full of invasives I want to change that
ОтветитьPure knowledge,thank you sir
Ответитьawesome insight
ОтветитьI'm planning on opening up about 5 acres of forest for silvo pasture. Can't wait for big trees in my pasture
ОтветитьSo informative!I live in eastern massachusetts and your video has opened my eyes within my local woodland areas, thank you!!
ОтветитьBeen doing this fifty years want to know. More thanks
ОтветитьSo informative
ОтветитьOne of the most incredibly intelligent men, I have seen, and have the honor of learning from with these amazing videos! Tom Wessels is definitely a databank of knowledge.
ОтветитьThank you so much for the lessons. I’ve learned so much already. I have a 5 acre property in nh an I can’t wait to try and analyze my property. Very interesting information.
ОтветитьJust loved this informational series. Thanks so much
ОтветитьA real hero. As a retired science teacher and an artist, your books and these videos are hugely informative. So much of these videos as well as the pictures in your books are very familiar to someone like me who frequently walks the woods of western Massachusetts.
Ответитьanyone ignorant enough to incorporate the fallacy of leftist mandated "climate change" (give me a break, the climate has ALWAYS changed) while ignoring the benefits of altering the carbon starvation plagueing our forests, should not be listened to. They are deluded. It is sad that we have to discriminate this way, but survival is for the "fittest", not dream weavers or fallacy connivers. Tom does offer good information on trees, but not on politics (as "climate hoaxes" are considered)
ОтветитьTom is the man!
Really liked hearing his last points on invasive non natives finding their niech co-evolveving ultimately...
Love this channel. Trees are so special. I want to learn as much as possible about them. Thank you.
ОтветитьWow, Tom sure is optimistic at the end of this video. Compared to the dire forecasts regarding effects of climate change on forests coming from many other scientists, Tom describes a much more hopeful future. Don't you wish you could jump in a time machine and travel forward a few centuries to find out?
ОтветитьOutstanding very informative thanks you.
Ответитьyou had me hooked! I watched all tree videos. 😀
Ответитьbest ASMR ever. If thats what it is called
ОтветитьIf you haven't purchased Tom's books, you should really considerate it. I take mine with me while I walk in the woods now.
ОтветитьWonderful
ОтветитьWhat a great series. I have learned so much!
ОтветитьWe have several open grown pasture Oak trees near our property that have since been overtaken by invasive wild honeysuckle. I've removed a lot of the honeysuckle but over the past 30 years I can see the "sentinels" as I call them are slowly succumbing to the encroaching forest.
ОтветитьI help tend a piece of land that is alvar up here in Canada. Rare limestone landscape with little soil. Very interesting combination of cedar & mixed conifer swamps and open dry areas with occasional isolated stunted old oaks. Had been partially cleared for ranching 100+ years ago then abandoned. My friend's dad bought it in the 90s and cut some of the now mature white pines and built a log home. LOTS of juniper but I think it is due to the happy combination of rock cracks in the limestone and little competition due to the rough environment limiting the species. I wonder how old cattle grazing affected things. I love walking around trying to sort the sequence of activity. I will be counting pine whorls... I will be buying Tom's books. :)
ОтветитьHow I love this tutorial of land I hiked as a kid in the 50s. Pastures hayfields Indian caves. Thanks for re awaking my love of nature! You are a treasure!
ОтветитьThe geese are laughing when he mentioned climate change.
ОтветитьI live in sw Pa, and some of the things I find in our forests are old charcoal pits and abandoned iron furnaces. I have on rare occasions also found American Chestnut trees that seem to grow to about 6 to 8 inches dia. before succumbing to blight. Some I found actually produced mast. I really enjoyed your series, thank you.
ОтветитьIt's always amazing to hear someone who is a true expert speak on a topic regardless of the subject matter.
Ответитьcant age discontinuity also be selective cutting?
ОтветитьPlease note: you are encouraged to comment and welcome to ask questions, but Tom does not monitor these posts and probably will not personally respond. -Ray
