I’m thinking of moving to NYC post-retirement. I I’ll be 61 soon. lived in DC for 24 years after living in TX. I moved back in TX after retiring as most of my family lives here. Besides having family close by, other benefits are It’s a much lower cost of living than DC, it’s cleaner, friendlier people, great customer service, no state income tax, and no natural disasters in the part of TX I now live in. Housing prices are awesome. But some of the cons - it doesn’t have four seasons, not enough variety of stuff to do that appeals to me (even though I live in one of the biggest cities in TX) and I prefer a compact, walkable city with a metro/subway. So NYC is calling my name. I’ll be visiting for a 7th time (first time was in mid-80’s) in Dec with tentative plans to move to Manhattan or Brooklyn in 2025 or 2026, as long as the crime doesn’t get any worse and my health and fitness are as they are today. I love to know it’s not just 20 year olds moving to the city.
ОтветитьFormer partner. Not ex. You aren't 15 anymore. Stop being so basic about your relationships. So embarrassing for you.
ОтветитьThank you for your channel! I lived in NYC most of my life, but moved to LA for a freelance job and ended up staying for 12 years. Never stopped dreaming of moving back. Finally made it happen 2 years ago. But it was a slog. So much of your situation rings true for me. SO glad I stuck it out and couldn't be happier. Did you see the documentary about Fran Lebowitz? In it she was counseling her niece who wanted to move here...when she could "afford it." "Stop right there," said Fran.."Nobody can 'afford' to live in NY. That's never why people want to live here." There are many other great reasons
ОтветитьIt’s not Manhattan, but I’ll keep my 750 sq ft Loft with private balcony and free parking space directly in front of my door in Tulsa for under $650/mo for now… 😅 great video, hope you find the one that makes you happy.

Great conclusion!
ОтветитьCO-LIVING great for travelers
ОтветитьHow do people get into a unit in NYC if they illegally get there and expect free accommodation. So expensive.
ОтветитьWhen I hear how much people in NYC are paying for rent I am amazed. How do they afford rents of thousands of dollars a month? I am so lucky that I own my own house in Ireland, my property insurance and taxes total for the year are around $2000.
ОтветитьNew york is bonkers!
40x the rent.
I can‘t even imagine
I have been in NYC for 36 yrs and remember when you could rent an apartment with just a pay stub. There was no "income 40x the rent" because rents (at least in the outer boroughs) were affordable for people who weren't CEOs. We answered ads in the Voice- and later on Craigslist- or just visited the neighborhood real estate offices. The first time I was ever charged a
broker's fee was 2018. Now there ARE NO affordable apartments- they have mostly been replaced with the over-priced micro-apartments you showed, in fancy buildings with lots of amenities.
We enjoyed this but the extreme variation in volume made this a difficult video to finish. Spent the whole time moving volume up and down to try to hear what was happening.
ОтветитьAhh a REAL NYER 😉
Love it 😍 !
Leaving ny is difficult ..I left but you make me want to move closer to home again
Wishing you the best on your search
You’ll fair better in Jersey City.
ОтветитьCaptions not showing.
ОтветитьSo glad you found a solution! Enjoyed your vlog. It showed up in my suggested videos (home page)!
ОтветитьOmg apartment hunting seems so stressful in NYC. I've just watched a young girl Tisha go through this awful time finding her dream home. Phew, those landlords/ your Mayor need to hang their heads in shame charging such high rents with horrible living spaces. Anyway rant over. I think you certainly made the right decision moving in with your Mother❤. I have visited NY twice and both times had a great time, one of my fav cities 😊. It certainly was a culture shock to us coming from the UK. Loved every minute. Thank you for sharing your life i love coming along for the ride with you. Best regards Rosie O from Devon, England 🏴
Ответитьgreat idea for your rental! your mom will feel so blessed. 🌸
ОтветитьI am so glad I found your channel! I love seeing everyone on this platform from all walks of life and ages. Makes me feel like I do belong :)
ОтветитьThe apartments you were looking at all looked horrible, sorry to say, and the price its robbery. I lived in NYC in the 70's and 80's, which was great, then moved to Europe, then moved back to NYC in 2010, a real wake up call. I was paying an outrageous rent in the East Village for a one bedroom, it was a joke. NYC has got everyone trapped. I left NY in 2021 and moved back to Europe, I have a 'Lovely' apartment overlooking a beautiful park and paying a very decent rent, also the food is Amazing. I love the NYC I once knew, not the new NY .You grew up there so you know old NY. I hope you find a nice apartment but I know how hard it is to find unless you pay that Outrageous rent. Good Luck.
ОтветитьWho is Isreal?
ОтветитьJust found your channel. You are beautiful (love the hair!!) and so clever. Enjoying your point of view. Have fun with your new NYC adventure!

ОтветитьDid you say that the 2nd apartment wanted you to have 40 X the rent in the bank? 😳 That’s wild!
ОтветитьAll the best on your search!
ОтветитьMy ocd, couldn’t get past her nails🫣
ОтветитьNew subbed omg you are so beautiful and very entertaining comical 😂❤❤❤

ОтветитьHey Geraldine! Love your content. It'd be a good idea to connect your headphones + mic when you're on the street or planes to improve the sound quality.
ОтветитьI'm 52 years old and do vlogs too. I live in California and hoping to move out of my studio apartment soon.
