Mr. Gervais has been very comfortable with mocking and ridiculing trans people and he wants them to just take it, which they haven't. I'd like to hear from him why the targets of his ridicule should take it beyond him saying, "Can't you take a joke?" Why should they? The First Amendment is a two-way street that only guarantees you will have your say (it doesn't guarantee that you won't be criticized for what you said). He had his say when he mocked trans people, and they've been having their say by organizing boycotts of his shows, and contacting theater owners to urge them to not book Mr. Gervais. He wants you to agree with him that trans people are subhuman and deserve to be mocked and ridiculed; not only dose he want you to agree with him, based on what he says, he wants you to join in the mocking and ridiculing.
