You'd think he'd want to incorporate more of that into the story. I suppose in some way he did, but the show only got lighter later on, and Daima being the cherry on top of this.

That's why I don't look at super Bardock I think Super Bardock is probably the worst thing that ever happened to the character because they tried to make him this heroic figure worried about his family being a loving husband not this ruthless saying warrior who realized that all the work that they've been doing was under this tyranny and that no matter what he can do he can't change the future or anything I prefer Z Bardock over super Bardock especially when the super manga had it where old Bardock wished for the safety of his kids to survive which explains the reason why Goku and ratus survive the destruction of planet Vegeta I'm like oh hell no. I don't want Bardock human eyes I want him to be the tyrant warrior that Frieza and them ruled over you know what made him amazing was because he knew what he was doing was wrong and knew that he couldn't change no matter what but there was underlining special knowing that he's able to see him to the future and seeing that Goku his son will be able to take on the tyranny of Frieza was kind of melancholy because I don't need him to be some hero I don't need him to be no relatable person I need him to be the ruthless father of Goku who tried and failed to save his world from the tyranny of Frieza after being loyal to them and realizing that Frieza never cared about the sayian race

Super Broly Bardock may be canon to Super, but this Bardock will always be canon to Dragonball, Z and GT to me.

Super is somewhat a separate timeline with all the retcons to OG Dragonball and Z it made throughout its run.

It doesn't diminish what Super did with Bardock, but it doesn't change that he can't really be the same Bardock from the Z timeline.

Both are good in their own way and should both be respected.

I found this movie at a Blockbuster when I was a kid and it blew my mind. Absolutely love this movie and Bardock.

While I understand why people prefer this version of Bardock I agree but I still think this discourse is kinda dumb.

An important detail that you missed is that Bardock even has visions of Goku fighting Vegeta, the strongest Saiyan. Beyond knowing that Goku was going to face Freeza, I think he knows his son was going to become the Legendary Super Saiyan. Its so heartbreaking and sweet at the same time.

Wonderful analysis of a wonderful story. Ironically the non canon Broly/Burdock characters and story behind them is gold (well some of it in Broly's case), unlike the modern garbage adaptation. The new version was able to destroy the personality and depth of 4 characters: Broly, Burdock, Bejita The-III & Paragas. They dared to make Broly and Burdock not ruthless sadistic killing machines how horrible.

Great video , but there’s one thing everyone might of missed . Whilst Bardock wasn’t a martial artist like goku his fight sort illustrates how he and goku are similar But different at the same time . Look at the beginning of goku vs Freeza ! Goku employed some of those same tactics like hides one the smoke . The fight that illustrated their similarities the most was coolers armored squadron vs goku it’s kinda almost copy paste the difference once again being goku is a martial artist and his father a ruthless killer . Bardocks bloodline also inherited the line “ we’ll see about that “ 😂

Its even crazier that Bardock SURVIVED this and got sent back in time to complete the loop which caused Frieza to fear the Saiyans in the first place.

Its obvious that Toriyama made changes to the canon in Super and Daima, to make Dragon Ball suitable for modern western audiences. You have to remember the original Dragon Ball, DBZ, GT and the movies were made in the 80s and 90s. That was a different world back then compared to what is now, nowadays people get offended easily. I was currently watching the OG Dragon Ball anime online on a website, and if it was released today, the show would be cancelled after the 1st episode. Young people who were watching the anime for the first time as well in order to get up to speed were calling the show creators ped*philes due to the wacky and inappropriate sexual humor. 😅

Super is so cringe it's like cocomelon collaborated to make its story and art style. Dbz is so gritty like imagine being a kid seeing that much manly and intense art style.

The Bardock movie was such a great tie in to the awesome Frieza saga.

What i truly love about this special is the almost Biblical element to it.

It was written that he was MEANT to die, so that one day his own child avenges not only him but the saiyan race, not being raised as a saiyan, but a human, and his child, a seemingly pathetic weak saiyan whit nothing to show, ends up becoming the LEGENDARY Super saiyan.
Its something that Super Bardock completely lacks, its a more basic story.

Even tho i know the writters didn't intend for this to be the message, i love how perfect it fits.

Why super changed broly story and now made bardock a super Saiyan when we seen Frieza killed him it's a few things that don't make since like the bardock movie him and Goku fight
