I could not love this man, in any incarnation, more.
ОтветитьI shared the bill with David and the Dolls on many occasions. He was great then and he's great now.
ОтветитьI would know nothing of The Dolls W` out Morrissey - Love Them !
ОтветитьThis man, in a room with Tom Waits... GOOD GOD! The music they could make together. Shame they've never collaborated. One can dream...
Ответить😎😎😎😎
ОтветитьLoved both
ОтветитьOnly the good die young, BP lives.
ОтветитьI became a very early big fan of the NY Dolls just by reading a very exciting one page article about them,
published in July of '72 in the Melody Maker British weekly (the title of the piece was 'You Wanne Play House with the Dolls ?', and the journalist was Roy Hollingworth). So it took me more than one year to hear anything by the band, when their first album came out in the fall of '73. It was even better that I could even imagine ! I saw the three concerts they did in Paris by the end of that year, they were so marvellous ! One of those three concerts was for a great French TV show called POP 2, a concert
that was never aired, because the program stopped at the very same time. Do the filming tapes exist
somewhere ? ... Unfortunately, we will most probably never know. Also, I also remember reading late in 72 in the French music magazine Best that a French TV crew was doing a documentary about the band in New York, and that it had on be seen when it would appear on TV. Nothing ever came out of this.
Again, do those film tapes exist somewhere ? ... Only questions, but no answers ! ... 😢
This looks amazing
ОтветитьMust see: David J. as Gunther Toody in film version of Car 54 Where Are You. Silly but much underrated--and J. is GREAT as Toody.
ОтветитьIncredible group of producers and directors
ОтветитьLove that Scorsese is doing this part of New Yorks history now.
Would love to see him do a CBGB movie.
Especially after that terrible one came out.
The first time I ever saw him was as the ghost of Christmas past in Scrooged.
ОтветитьHe has a very interesting voice. Lol
ОтветитьWow. Just this trailer brought me to tears. David has been through so so much. He is such a wonderful, humble colorful human being. He’s truly an artist and he absolutely deserves a standing ovation from all of us.
ОтветитьGot to see the NY Dolls play in the early 70s in Hollywood opening night at the Roxy. They were fantastic and beautifully dressed. They were supposed to play two shows thst night but were banned from playing the second show because some of the band members came out in the audience and stood on the tables while they played. One of the most entertaining shows I've ever seen! Johnny Thunders with his highly teased hair playing a Les Paul Jr. , Sylvain Sylvain playing a beautiful White Falcon, Killer Kane playing bass looking like a football hooker, Jerry Nolan playing beautiful drums and David J all dolled up wearing his stilettos all dolled up. Man those were the days!
ОтветитьAny chance of a reunion of the original line up
ОтветитьI still have a Hohner harmonica he threw and I caught during an epic show in San Diego in probably 1979. Song was "You Touched Me Too."
ОтветитьHe's highly underrated as a songwriter, especially some of his content with the reunited Dolls lineup. Perfect frontman for a rock and roll band. And marvelous storyteller.
ОтветитьI "discovered" them when I was 16. I saw their first album in a bin and thought, WTF? Bought it,
and was instantly a fan. Long live the Dolls!
😂😂😂
ОтветитьSome of the footage looks like it was shot at the Carlyle hotel in the Cabaret room. We saw him perform there about four years ago and although he is a legend to some degree I have to say that the show was somewhat disappointing. David looked like he was struggling to breathe and the ironic thing was that between songs he would whip out a vape and puff on it which I don’t think was probably a very wise choice
ОтветитьExcellent
ОтветитьMr. Johansen’s tenacity is admirable. IMO, he’s an artist’s artist; a man of many talents! I’m glad he’s getting the recognition he deserves. We should give people their flowers while they’re here!
ОтветитьHe is interesting and worth a watch but this movie/doc is garbage.
Ответитьboring
ОтветитьAs the French would say,C'est Epoustaflant!Thank You Martin Scorcese,David Tedeschi, and above all David Johansen& his really lovely loving family,This really put some wind in my sails-to put it lightly-God Bless &Always Be Well to All those involved in bringing such a singular New York voice&total Bohemian Maverick who clearly dances to his own tune to light-I don't cry anymore-but I came close with this one, honest to Christ....
ОтветитьInexpicable Maverick Tangentiality=David Johansen:)
ОтветитьHoly crap I was never a fan but after watching this, what a song writer!! Love the lounge singing routine, it was simply beautiful. It’s encouraged me to look through his music. Absolutely love the song MELODY.
ОтветитьWell, who could be cooler than him? He's the man, admit it and go on with your life with your wealth and be forgotten!
ОтветитьYaiee stiuu LABIN I E E?!
ОтветитьSo So So enjoyable, thanks for all you gave and a great reminiscing. 💜
ОтветитьHe was better actor
Ответить#1 docu currently.
ОтветитьSO bizzarre how I was thinking about him in recent days and this appears!!! So excited about it!
ОтветитьIt's sad, that David Johansen is the last surviving member of the New York Dolls.
Ответитьthis dude
Ответитьlove him
Ответить💓🔥🔥💓😎🚬🎶🎶
ОтветитьBest times of my life.....kuddos David
ОтветитьWill Ferrell should make a comedy spoof movie based on this Documentary! It looks hilarious! LOL!
Ответитьgreat
ОтветитьI wanna watch this because Morrissey is in it ❤❤
ОтветитьThat was great, Buster is a character and the world is lacking that now millennial days,, I’m a Queens boy same school as Johnny T. Ck out my band- NO PLACE TO PISS
ОтветитьPossibly the best film about music that I have ever seen. Johansen is so entertaining, both in his songs and his commentary, that I was simply riveted to his every move. The film has been out less than a year, and I have already viewed it several times. The true test of talent in a performer is, to me, that every subsequent viewing feels as new and fresh as the first time. And what great songs! Truly a magnificent artist...
ОтветитьCan this be viewed in France? Big Fan!!
ОтветитьI watched it on Showtime, what a treat. I was a Dollls fan, loved Dave Johansson. What a transition to Buster Poin Dexter was a reinvention!
Ответитьdavid looks younger in this trailer then 20 years back
Ответитьi loved him in Mr Nanny, he played the main villian, it was so friggin hilarious and amazing his performance😂😂😂😂
