"Men will follow a nasty, evil man before they will follow an amiable backslapper"

Policy really doesn't enter into it. The fact is that those who vote on policy, will virtually always have a different policy. I see a lot of worry in the trans community, and people saying 'how could my friend vote for trump', but I've never heard of any anti trans legislation Trump was thinking of 'executive ordering'. Most trans issues are STATE issues and there are a number of states I'd be getting the hell out of if I were a woman or trans person.

Another post I saw was that some woman said she voted Trump because he said he's going to stop wars. Of course he also supported israel. But there was plenty of coverage about Harris' comments on Gaza and how tons of arab americans were not voting democrat because of palestine.

But largely america is what canada is quickly becoming, a two class state. I doubt most repoublicans even KNOW what legislation is introduced federally. I read some of it, and some of it CLEARLY attacks their own base, while some of it is just out and out crazy. People have said that largely the Democrats have become what the republicans used to be, while they've just gone off the map. So not a surprise is the fact that I think voter turnout was about the lowest level ever.

And of course that hides the fact that Trump is very clearly as senile as Biden is, they called the media 'sanewashing', becaues you could listen to full speeches online and they were not even coherent.

But mostly its the ficus effect. Trump is like the anti politician-or at least people think. Michael Moore predicted this thirty years ago when he did TV Nation and actually ran a ficus for governor of new jersey. And if you watch the show, there is a very good argument to make that the ficus actually won. The state co operated while they thought it was a joke, then they stopped releasing the vote count, then shut down all commenting on the matter.

I suspect thats why in Canada many conservatives are terrified Trudeau WON"T run again. This mark Carney guy-to anybody thats not a partisan conservative, is not a career politician. But I think in Canada thanks to social media we've gone just as far. There is a large percentage of people that just spout batshit crazy things about politics, and clearly hate it when you tell them otherwise. The GOOD thing about Trump is that while people talk about political favours, the guy CAN"T run again, so literally owes nobody anything. In Canada sadly we get stuck with these idiots for way too long.
