"Presentism" is a narrow minded, self righteous, ingnorant movement which masquerades as "compassionate" and "enlightened" but is nothing of the sort.
It makes two false claims: that if I lived back then I wouldn't have gone along with all the bad stuff - slavery - and that we now have all the answers - or me and my friends do.

And now the rest of the story: 🤓 📕
Though there were obviously racist southern leaders and others who took a perversely racist pleasure in the raising of confederate monuments, the statues were NOT raised as a “fuck you” to black America. The SPLC created that narrative, THAT LIE. It’s completely false. A quick look at United States history shows it.
Here’s the true story. Look it up. At the half century mark after the civil war, fifty years later, northern and southern states wanted to heal and reconcile. Elderly soldiers from both sides met on the battlefields, shook hands, swapped war stories, raised monuments, and honored each other’s leaders and heroes. The era lasted about a decade or more and was nationwide. It was called the Reconciliation Era. Google it.
The SPLC intentionally left out certain facts. In their zeal to conflate the timeframes of Jim Crow laws with the raising of statues, their so-called “research” never mentioned the Reconciliation Era. If they researched it, how do they not even mention it? Our newspapers of the time were flooded with stories about monuments and statues being raised because of the Reconciliation Era. It wasn’t some hidden secret history. It was a celebrated time with positive receptions for all of America. There are tons of historical pictures of some of the old soldiers eating and posing together on battlefields. Why omit that from their *research*?
There were just as many union monuments raised as confederate. The SPLC listed ZERO of those. Didn’t fit their narrative. In fact, Gettysburg had more northern than southern monuments.
The contested land was in the south, so most battlefields and monuments were raised in the south, but the LIE needs to end. The monuments were not raised for racist purposes. That BS is the product of the SPLC and some self proclaimed history revisionists backed it up.
The second largest raising of monuments according to the SPLC occurred in the sixties because of the civil rights movement. More “correlation equals causation” because, once again, they looked at when the monuments were being raised and sought something racist occurring around the same time; the Civil Rights Movement. Except, gee, it was the centennial mark for the Civil War. There were rededications of monuments and néw monuments raised. That’s what happens at the century mark of huge historical events.
The SPLC needs to be shut down.

Those statues celebrated confederate generals. Confederate generals supported slavery and should NOT be celebrated. Citizens offended by these statues being taken down have poor character because they support what these historical figures represented. And that's despicable.

A better option for Confederate statues would have been to little by little replace statues as a sort of "renovation". Gets rid of the statues, but it does it gradually so people don't feel that their culture is under attack.

Yes teach the whole story Bill. Like the other reasons that the Confederacy seceded. Like ridiculous tariffs taxes, being conscripted to go to wars They didn't agree with. They leave that out of 8th grade history. Slavery could have gone away on its own without a single bullet fired. Just like I did in Britain France and every other major country that had it. The federal government got huge and powerful post civil war. That was a bad thing too. Probably worse

EXCEPT FOR DOUGLAS MURRAY, THE OTHER TWO WERE IDIOTS. THE CONFEDERATES DID NOT CELEBRATE SLAVERY. IN FACT, THEIR CONGRESS WAS IN TALKS TO END SLAVERY BUT THE NORTH 9WHO USED TO OWN SLAVES NOT TO LONG BEFORE) STARTED THE WAR.
THE NORTH ALSO SHIPPED MOST OF THE SLAVES TO THE SOUTH AND MADE A KILLING OUT OF DOING SO.
ANYWAY, THE SOUTH WAS NEAR TO ENDING SLAVERY, THEY JUST DIDN'T WANT TO BE TOLD WHEN OR HOW TO DO IT.

And when Lincoln issued his proclamation emancipation, he didn’t free any slaves that he could have freed. He only freed those slaves that were in the south, and he had no power and practicality to do that. There were several states that were in the union that were slave states and those slaves were not freedduring the proclamation emancipation. Now you know.

The south had every right to secede from the union. It’s like a woman wants a divorce and the man won’t let her and then crosses line into the woman’s territory and grabs her and drags her back. The south we’re not traders. The south decided they want it their own country and they legally created it. It wasn’t the Civil War. It was the war of northern aggression.

I like Bill, but he often says things that reveal how limited his knowledge and understanding are. He, like most other people in this country, can only see slavery through the lens of the American manifestation of the concept. It is very well known — and writings about it number in the thousands — that the “slavery” in the Bible couldn’t have been more different than the contemporary American mind imagines it. (Reminder: The Bible wasn’t written in English.)

Slaves in the Bible were those who worked to pay off a debt of some sort and get themselves back on their feet. Those who hired them were commanded by Torah law to treat them as well or better than any member of the family. For example, if you only had one pillow in your home, by law you were required to give it to your slave.

It’s a shame that someone who claims to value truth and wisdom has never in his life encountered factual commentaries on this topic or been intellectually curious enough to seek them out. I hope he changes that someday soon.

Richmond City in Virginia is rife with Liberals. I am from one of the counties outside of Richmond. We in the counties typically do not understand why they make such absurd decisions. Decisions like the removal of statues from Memorial Ave are one of the reasons why the counties refuse to invest in Richmond City. They do not want to listen. Let alone listen to reason. Stoney was also one of their very poor decisions.

And yes I know slavery is wrong, if people are so against it now then why don’t they stop the slave trade in current times that has effected more people than it did ever did in America.
