What if Frodo & Sam or better yet Eowyn witnessed Denethor's attitude towards Faramir?
ОтветитьSauron watching be like "... ok maybe I went overboard with corrupting him.... NAH who am I kidding xD"
Ответить22/02/2025
ОтветитьPippin: "Geez Boromir, this is what you had to deal with on a daily basis? No wonder you jumped in front of a bunch of arrows first chance you got."
ОтветитьMy dad is just like this toward me, exact same level of enmity. I have my theories as to why but its nothing i ever did to him, resentment and envy even. He has no real friends but he does treat my younger sister much much better.
ОтветитьAlthough Denethor is despicable because he admits he would prefer the Faramir had perished rather than Boromir, he is also steadfastly honest. He would never lie…about anything. If you don’t want to hear the truth from Denethor, don’t ask.
The other thing the movies don’t mention is this: Denethor became this way because of his almost daily struggles with Sauron’s will by gazing into the Palantir of Minas Tirith, a struggle that even Saruman could not handle without becoming corrupted.
Sauron could not corrupt Denethor, but he could wrest hope from him and leave him in hopeless despair. In short, Denethors will was greater even than Saruman’s. But he had not the strength to wrest the seeing stones from Sauron.
I just learned he is the voice of Scarecrow. I feel like he needs more recognition for that role.
ОтветитьDenethor looks real happy with pippin
ОтветитьJohn Noble is just phenomenal as Dinner Thor
ОтветитьWhat I fail to understand is why the screenplay had Faramir absolutely savage toward Smeagol. They could have kept Faramir's temperament and courtesy he displayed toward Smeagol the same as in the book and it would have been better and more in step with the entire story line of animosity between Faramir and his father Denethor.
ОтветитьFaramir is my favorite character in LOTA. David Wenham did an amazing job on him. Love from Edinburgh.
ОтветитьI'm the yonger son and I feel like ferramir 😅
ОтветитьBoromir should have been King!😭
ОтветитьHeartbreaking as this scene is for Faramir, it gets so much worse when you remember that he now has to tell his men they’re going back to Osgiliath. What’s the mood like at that briefing?
ОтветитьAnyone here after the ESL skit ? :D
ОтветитьAt that point I was cheering for Sauron
ОтветитьWhen Pippin is swearing his service to Denathor, you can see how against Faramir is to this, he looks to his father, as if to say ' You cannot swear this hobbit, one that my brother died defending, into your service and the service of Gondor."
Faramir knows it is an oath that Pippin with uphold unto death because he he swore it.
All the while, Denathor is looking down Pippin, as one would like down upon a child trying to recite lines of a play, finding it amusing and charming in their hesitancy and struggle. Pippin is struggling to swear the oath, because he knows what that oath means because he witnessed Boromir's death.
Faramir knows what it it to swear an oath before a heartless man.
Playlist broken.
ОтветитьHe has his faults, but props to Denethor for taking Pippin seriously and not looking down on him for being a Hobbit.
ОтветитьFaramir had proved his worth more than enough when he resisted the ring's temptation and sent the hobbits on their way. How sad Denathor couldn't understand that. His son deserved his admiration rather than disdain.
ОтветитьThose who watch the theatrical version first: you horrible man 😢
Those who watch extended first: well duh...
Recommend anyone who hasn't watch the trilogy to watch originals first before watching extended. Why? To better appreciate it
Faramir " you wish now that our places had been exchanged, that I had died and Boromir had lived "
Denethor whispers "Yes, I wish that "
I have a neighbor who accidentally crushed his eldest son with his truck while they were loading it with bricks, whenever he got mad at his surviving child he would yell "it should have been you who died!" and when his wife got pregnant with his daughter he would often tell her that he didn't want another child, that nobody would replace his dead son. Both children moved as soon as they secured stable jobs.
ОтветитьI know we're all talking about Denethor and Faramir, and yeah, that's a total gut punch of a scene, but can we talk about the part where Pippin swears fealty to Gondor? The part where he falters and has to take a minute to draw up the breath to finish? 🥺
It's a moment that makes you really see how he's changed over the course of the story.
This is not the real Denethor. The real Denethor we see was corrupted into deep depression and cowardice by Sauron in a battle of wills with a Palantir.
ОтветитьRemember, reality is often stranger than fiction. Put another way, fiction is often inspired by just how extreme reality can often be. Tolkien crafted a tragic family in Denethor's house, one that might be inspired by the broken fathers he encountered in war and in life.
John Noble's performance is outstanding because his Denethor believably drove Gandalf and Pippin to outrage, and through them, the audience. His time on screen had to be limited because of the many story threads that the writing and directing teams had to put together in the span of 2 hours, so we couldn't see that Sauron likely caused his wife's death not long after Faramir's birth, or that Sauron destroyed his spirit through the palantir.
I think Denethor, along with Umbridge, manages to be the most hated character than the respective villains of the two sagas.
ОтветитьYou could the pain on Faramir's face as he tried to hold back the tears and Pippin's expression as Faramir turned to leave. The music was really touching.
Ответить“Since you were robbed of Boromir, I will do what I can in his stead…”
Being the unfavorite child, I can definitely relate.
Faramir , tu padre se está volviendo loco
ОтветитьWhat I love about this scene is that Denethor himself seems surprised. The man he was before fear and despair destroyed him would never have said such a thing to his son. But that man is gone.
ОтветитьWhen you realise aragorn is just one year younger than denethor😅😂
Ответитьthe contrast between films from early 2000s to now is crazy
ОтветитьGod. In the movies Denethor was such a bastard.
ОтветитьNever considered the difference between how Theoden and Denathor moarn the loss of their son was a well intended contrast by Tolkien. "He would use his grief as a cloak." One regains his vitality, the other doest
ОтветитьEven the way he sets his plate is just. Insane lol.
ОтветитьThe scene seems different when you know that Tolkien actually portrayed Denethor as a talented, highly intelligent, and strong-willed ruler who loves Gondor and becomes increasingly embittered by losing his wife and his son. He even resisted corruption by Sauron, something that even Saruman did not accomplish.
ОтветитьI wanted to punch that horrible Denethor in his face (especially his nose) and kick his ass for saying that to Faramir! Why in the hell did it have to take Faramir being supposedly dead for Denethor to finally show his love towards him? Apparently it did have to take Faramir either committing suicide or getting killed in battle to finally earn his father's love! I will hate Denethor to the end of my life! I only felt sorry for Faramir and Boromir's memory when Denethor burned to a crisp!
ОтветитьPippin- Well.. It's a good thing that we burned Denethor to death then! :P 👍🌟🌟
ОтветитьFaramir: "Osgiliath is overrun"
Denethor: "Much must be risked in war"
Faramir: "Orcs now have the best vantage points, areas that we can hardly reach and you want us to take it?"
Denethor: "I don't see the issue, it's a simple matter of-"
Faramir: "oh bullshit, BULL! Osgiliath is a mile away, Boromir always said you were senile"
Denethor: "Where are you going?"
Faramir: "To tell the guard you've gone nuts, fuck off"
guards arrest denethor for sheer stupidity
This scene makes me sad and angry. I love Faramir... One of my favorites and he is the strongest man... He knew he wouldnt be able to handle the one ring and lets Frodo and Sam go... along with Golum.... thats one hell of man.. Boromir was the weak brother. He tried killing Frodo for it and when he realized what he did, he felt bad yes, but Boromir was weak. Faramir could of been over taken by it...
ОтветитьThey really did Denethor dirty in the movies. I guess they needed a replacement for Saruman.
ОтветитьGeez theres a reason why sauron chose men as nazgul 💀
Ответитьthe tomato, every time a eat a cheery tomato I think of this scene,
