How on earth could my rent only be 30% of my monthly income? I am a student who works 20%. I can’t work more. And I want to move into the city to not have a 1.3h drive every morning and night.
The average rent for a room (flat share) is around 900-1000.
If I move out That’ll be around 60% of my monthly income…

This is a great video! I do just want to say that there are times in life when you have the oppurtunity to consider doing something, but that doesn't always mean you are ready. It has been really important for me to learn how to consider/ process my feelings seperatly from the physical state of a situation. Different things work for different people so I just wanted to add another perspective to the "how do you know you are ready" section of the video in case it is helpful for someone:)

Hi there! I hope someone can answer this question. I am hoping to move out at some point in the next few months. I have taken the “30% of your monthly income on rent” advice into consideration, and have calculated an amount and decided that is the max amount I will pay per month for rent. However, I have been a little confused if this “30% rule” is supposed to include monthly utility bills??? How much should I (one person) budget for utilities each month, and should that amount depend on my monthly income? If anyone would like to share a recommendation, source, or personal experience, I would so very much appreciate it. I think having a max budget for utilities will make me much more comfortable and confident in my apartment search. Thank so much you in advance, and I hope to hear from someone soon! :)

I'm about to graduate college and, although I've technically been living away from home for the past 5-ish years, college apartment living (with roommates who are also students) is totally different from living on your own as an independent adult.
