Whatever anyone says- had I been a young man in the 1930s, I would have fallen for the Nazis propaganda hook, line and sinker...

This was the first WW2 documentary series I ever saw, in my early teens at grandma's place in late 90s. It sparked/co-sparked my interest in WW2 and I remember how my granda (born 1935, being 10 at the final battle and fall of Bratislava, capital of fascist Slovak state) was saying how important is to watch it, despite the horryfying nature of some of the series' parts for kids.

Slovakia remained a German protectorate with some semblance of self government and later became pat of the Axis. It's leader, Monsignor Joseph Tiso, a Nazi Puppet would be executed after the war for being a traitor and collaborator.

Down this road, on a summer day in 1944, the soldiers came.

Nobody lives here now. They stayed only a few hours.

When they had gone, a community, which had lived for a thousand years, was dead.

This is Oradour-sur-Glane in France.

The day the soldiers came, the people were gathered together.

The men were take to garages and barns, the women and children were led down this road… and they were driven into this church.

Here, they heard the firing as their men were shot.

Then they were killed, too.

A few weeks later, many of those who had done the killing were themselves dead. In battle.

They never rebuilt Oradour. Its ruins are a memorial.

Its martyrdom stands for thousand upon thousand of other martyrdoms in Poland, in Russia, in Burma, in China… in a World at War.

My heart aches seeing this. I see the same hatred for the Jews & other 'undesirables' on university campuses across the UK & The US. It's not that great a step from their marches to the burning of synagogues & businesses.

What I love about this series is it's factual. No glorification here. Just the facts. There's a similar, less well known documentary series by the BBC on WW1, narrated by Sir Michael Redgrave.
Together, these two are unquestionably the absolute pinnacle in documentary film-making!
Thanks for sharing this!

Trump has planned a rally at Madison Square Garden! Tell me that that is simply a coincidence. 🙄
Nevermind that he's also uttered the words, blood and soil, vermin and poisoning the blood when speaking about immigrants. This is all recorded on video for all to see with a simple Google search. Just enter those exact words plus Trump.
Recently he also said that the enemy from within is worse than the threat from China or Russia. He confirmed that he was referring to Democrats and the FBI (he said justice system). Trump also said that he would use the National Guard or if necessary the military if need be against the so called enemy from within.
And yet MAGA still strongly supports him!
Please share this information with loved ones and friends because MSM and certainly far right wing media such as Fox, OAN, RSBN and Newsmax won't. I don't know what else to do aside from get out the vote. Thank you! 🤪

Coming back to this in the hours after Trump's return. I am objectively terrified by all the parallels to the early days of the Nazis and the degree of power and control that he's going to have come January 20th, not to mention what he and people around him want.

Here in the U.S., I well remember as a preteen watching this series on TV every Friday night during the mid-1970s, when I was developing a deep interest in the Second World War. A war in which my late father and several of my relatives fought. Thankfully, they all came home safe, though one of my uncles received a Purple Heart for being wounded (along with a Bronze Star with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters) while serving as a junior infantry officer in Italy with the 92nd Infantry Division.
