It's wild to me that the eastern greatsword styles largely still went into sheaths, and as far as I know were worn at the hip / transported by a second when moving. There's a vast rabbit hole of eastern sword styles practicing nothing but drawing their large swords quickly lol.

Why does this thing have a off hand ?

Having the blade flat on your shoulder is asking to bump into something and lose part of your neck

Where can I buy a great sword? I didn't know they were so light in weight.

The superior version is shoving it inside a pocket dimension called "your inventory"

I would imagine if you keep your blade really sharp resting it flat against the slippery fabric of shoulder, poised to slide into your neck, is not ideal.

one could in theory tailor the ricasso to extend further into the shouder plate and have a lower carry point for lower ceilings

I prefer the off-hand cradle or a mount carrying it and my other weapons, so I can just choose what I need.

My friend had the idea of using a large cork to let you rest it on the ground, and then just use your foot to knock it off should a fight arise

the armrest is probably strategic for combat too since the fatigue wouldn’t set in. At a certain point even mathematically, if the blade is micro-compromised but your arm is 15%
more rested, you’ll still deliver more devastating blows, and that doesn’t even account for combat nuances.

I'm mostly a Japanese based weapons guy who spent my childhood training Toyama Ryu Iaido or Gunto Ryu. But the Greatsword is my mistress. I'm fascinated by it, and I'm ordering my montante trainer it's such a cool sword I'm looking for a teacher who teaches it near me

Surprised I don’t see more kicking in movies. It seems like the sort of thing to do if you want to look dramatic.

The offhand cradle and similar things are some of the best ways to hold a sword in my experience

I wish more games incorporated such idle stances, usually unsheathing your blade puts you into a combat ready stance, and you're stuck in that stance for all time the blade is out.

I want to see a realistic (not necessarily historically accurate) back scabbard for something like this.

Plus you have the added benefit that the guard is against your neck not the blade
