Everyone appears to be focussing on the wrong thing, asking the wrong questions. VAR costs a fortune and is supposed to enable the correction of refereeing errors. The question should be, 'Why are there rules in place that stop VAR from alerting the referee to obvious and serious errors?' VAR in rugby works fine. The official watching the screens can chit-chat to the referee constantly throughout play, let the referee know what he sees and the referee can ask his opinion (if he wants to) without stopping the match. However he can stop the match if he's convinced the VAR has seen something that he should see too. How many times have we seen mistakes that VAR is not permitted to draw to the referees attention because of these rediculous rules? (Players sent off for a second red card that isn't being another prime example).
