Marine archaeologist Ehud Galili discovered an underwater ancient settlement off the coast of Israel's Mediterranean in 1984. While it was initially a mystery, further excavation uncovered that it was the largest and most well-preserved prehistoric site found along the Mediterranean shoreline. Known as Atlit Yam, this stone age village dates back at least 9,000 years ago and covers over four hectares at a depth of 1 meter.
