ОтветитьGotta love the people who decided to do nothing for 6 months and then probably got awarded or promoted for "finding the plane". Who cares that you don't have any record of a missing plane, all you have to do is check it out but nah thats work.
ОтветитьWhy would they not stay with the plane or at least search the plane for survival equipment?? The first thing you do is find shelter (the plane) and find resources required to survive (the plane)
ОтветитьRobert toner was from my town in mass.. Street is named after him. Cool story.
ОтветитьIt pains me to say this but walking back to the plane was the first thing I thought of 😢
ОтветитьAs the science documentary by Moody titled "Signposts Aloft" points out, the men could have saved themselves if they put their faith in their instruments instead of their gut-feelings. The special compass on the plane that honed in on the Airfield's beacon was still operational. But the crew ignored the signal, because they were two hours ahead of schedule.
ОтветитьFly on for two hours after your calculations approximated your base ??
You don't circle around ??
Bad decision.
Nothing in the diary ??
Really didn't need to invade Italy.... it was done more to help Stalin than to satisfy military objectives.....
ОтветитьNone of the crew could've known where the Lady be Good crashed since they bailed in a sandstorm so they were doomed from the start.
ОтветитьCould they not have diverted to Malta which was surely a nearer alternative allied held island and far safer if engine problems had occurred.
Ответитьrip amen
Ответитьwhat a sad story!!!
Ответитьlmao deserts are dry thank you for that thoughtful insight just tell the fucking story gonna unsubscribe because you pad your videos with unnecessary facts that are either common knowledge or easily assessable without actually talking about any scientific information about the subject you claim your video is about. It's like this channel has fallen off in regards to research and on the point story telling. do better.
ОтветитьI would think it would be basic survival protocol to check the downed plane FIRST for resources, before setting on an improbable and uncertain search for help.
ОтветитьAmazing they were able to walk 85 miles and even farther for some I couldn’t see going more than a couple miles
ОтветитьGo go. Go lady go go, go lady go go, go lady go go go…
ОтветитьRIP crewmen of this airplane.
ОтветитьWhen the story was first published in Life Magazine, it said the guidance system was working and they were flying "on the beam" being transmitted from Soluch. Problem was they thought they were headed directly toward the airfield but had unknowingly passed over it and were headed directly away from it, all the while staying on the same heading. Using the beam at night, you knew your heading, but you didn't know whether you were headed toward the beam source or away from it. When they decided to bail out due to low fuel, they thought they would be landing in the Med. Sea. Imagine their surprise when they hit the hard desert sand in the dark. According to that article, the last body they found was 90 miles from the airplane, a feat of endurance theretofore believed impossible.
ОтветитьJust think of how sadistic the god you pray to must be...after these men prayed for their lives...your sick god just stood there and laughed. That is the god you worship. Either that or he doesn't exist... What is more likely?
ОтветитьMy goodness!!! March to your plane!! Sos over the radio !
ОтветитьIn 1960, before the plane was discovered a documentary on the Lady Be Good was shown on TV. One of the possible explanations for the disappearance of the aircraft at that time was felt to be that it may have been 'captured' by a UFO.
ОтветитьYou'd think somone would have gotten a visual on the crash site and they'd regroup at the plane? Surely they realised it had shelter and supplies....
ОтветитьThe ADF is a device showing the origin of a radio signal, not the magnetic direction of the Earth. That device would be a compass.
ОтветитьA poignant story -- one of so many casualties in the insanity of war. And humans still have learned nothing judging by the state of the World these days.
ОтветитьThe African theater is not unknown. It’s one of the most known.
ОтветитьI have seen another documentary on this wreck and they noted that the ADF needle was actually tested and found to be fully functional after the crash. It seems in this unfortunate event, another contributing factor was the mistrust of the instruments. Even with the low fuel condition, a high tail wind cause them to be past their base hours ahead of schedule.
Ответитьthis is absolutely tragic... had the pilots been trained for ditching, they indeed might have got out of that.. radio, supplies, and firearms...
and the most important mistake was ignoring the ultimate military safety rule - when something doesn't go according to the plan and you never briefed it - abort and return to base. heartbreaking...
Very sad.
ОтветитьNavigation Incompetence - Rookie Mistake ? Believe the Navigator died during bailout ? 🤔
ОтветитьLet's just call a spade a spade, the pilot made one bad decision after another and cost the crew their lives
ОтветитьI thought I must be listening to this at 1.25 speed. Slow down a bit, maybe?
ОтветитьThey did all they could, God bless them, may they rest in peace❤
ОтветитьWhy is viewer discretion advised?
ОтветитьShould have stayed with their equipment .
ОтветитьFlight in those day was calculated by fuel, speed,Direction, any wind and just plain Time. The pilot flew for hours past any known landmarks, killing his crew.Brave but Unqualified.Even worse, no compass at all…so many bad decisions in a row..
ОтветитьI really wonder why they decided to bail out of the airplane instead of trying to land it??
ОтветитьEdwin Star wrote/sang, "War, what is it good for, absolutely nothing."
ОтветитьAnd why weren't they found? Because they were expendable and everyone was only looking out for themselves. Typical. Don't be promoting the faithlessness of the military by publishing these so you make money.
ОтветитьWhen I served, one of the best compliments you could get was being called hard. These men defined that word, as did many men during that era. I doubt there are many from the current generation that could have done what these men did. Godspeed gentlemen!
Semper Fi!
I can't imagine the courage it must've taken to survive for as long as they did, RIP
ОтветитьI wonder if this was the inspiration for the Twilight Zone episode "King Nine Will Not Return"?
ОтветитьGod Bless them all 🇺🇸
ОтветитьQuite Similar to the Hollywood film ' Flight of the phoenix. apart from I think they were oil workers and they built another plane from the crashed plane. Hollywood got carried away but the film has a lot of similarities between them
ОтветитьIt threatened the functionality of the aircraft, NOT AIRCRAFTS, 'Aircraft' is the same in both singular and plural. Singular example: There is one aircraft left on the runway. Plural example: There are many aircraft in the sky today. There is no s EVER!
ОтветитьI was told by Ron Lovell about a Sprtfire plane at Darwin .Australia that when inland to far after the signal he was told by compass was 180 D out .He sat in his plane at right because of the Mossies' & a crew went out and saved him leaving the plane there. Ron was a Armorer at Darwin at the time. Years later I watched s TV program were a Spitfire plane ran out of fuel on the way to Darwin & he landed in Mangrove areas Just past Broom .Was it the same plane he told me about I dont know.
ОтветитьHumf... didn't know they manufactured planes in Libya
