#2 from 'The Edge of Beyond', Lyric Suite for Piano (1920)
---------------------------------------------------
Here is the title piece from a suite by the British composer (Alfred) Frederic Mullen (1868-1936). Jean Morel was one of the pseudonyms he used: others were Gustave Lind and Pierre Lescaut. The suites of piano pieces by this 'group' of composers were very popular in the early years of the last century. I was interested to see that this piece actually has a dedication (unusual for pieces written under pseudonyms) to one Mabel Lewis.
The title of the suite suggests mysticism, but this is definitely a realm of the British Empire! This piece is headed by a quotation that I can't identify:
“When you reach the summit of the mountain,
Gaze into space—into the “Beyond”.”
