Is there a way to automatically highlight rows depending on first three letters? (without using conditional formatting)
Let's say i have column like;

aaa1234
aaa446567
aaa565
bbb334
bbb322

cccc43434
ddd343
ddd656

In this case i would like to have rows starting with "aaa" and "ccc" to be highlighted where "bbb" and "ddd" would stay as the original.

col D having either A or B. if i select either the value A or B, that entire row shud b highlighted instead of entire range wherever the value A exists. colour shud b change for row A & row B

How do you do this so that the rule sticks in a pivot table? I've applied this and every time the pivot table opens up or refreshes the rule gets changed.
