Pokemon Sword and Shield Review - Thorgi's Reviews

After DLC, SwSh to me is a solid B grade game. It had a rough and even lacking start but updates and DLC helped to be more than average. It still has issues like not every pokemon and move being available but I get the excuse of them having to update EVERY pokemon and move which each generation and it can be problematic at times even for a franchise like Pokemon.

I didnt realise what was missing from these character until you brought up the possibility of voices in the actual games. Im surprised that I have never thought of or heard this idea that makes perfect sense for a more advanced console

You're right about the series needing side quests. Coming back to the games after six years made the games feel like I was 10 again playing Pokemon Yellow, but having a minor pokemon league would really add to the challenge (especially since over leveling is a big possibility in this game).

Considering your complains from Marvel infinite this is how I feel about Pokemon sword and shield
There's half the roster of the last game which is now $20 more then the 3ds games
Little to no improvement over the last games
It really doesn't feel like a next installment, it just feels like they just were not limited by the 3ds so they just made a better looking 3ds game

That awkward moment when this is probably my favorite Pokemon story because it focuses so heavily on the rivals and characters, and the themes of dreams and not achieving them and whatnot.

Thank God a review from someone who avoids over-negativity. Seriously this game is getting over-hated HARD.

Hey Professor Thorgi, is there any chance you'd look into playing Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth? It came out on Switch recently and I think it would have more of what you're looking for. I would love to see your opinion on it.

I like how it looks, but part of me wishes they would have also released a portable version of it with the old style graphics.

I love this game, but the online is crap about 30% of the time. Plus they got rid of the GTS, which I hate. I managed to complete the Pokédex without the GTS, but there was a lot of unnecessary work.

This game's ost is really a cut above the rest of the franchise

The incredibly linear world design killed this game for me. Pokemon is one of my favorite series', but the last three generations have just been so devoid of any real exploration or player agency it's a major drag. I want to feel like I'm exploring the world, not being led by the hand every which way. And the story was actively terrible in this one, even unintentionally mocking climate issues. That gym music and the new Pokemon designs were really good at least. Also, I cannot agree enough that the series needs side quests. Here's hoping they expand on the wild area concepts in a big way. Replace routes with them!

I'll say what I've always said. I'm sure this is a fine game, but no national dex no buy from me. It's not that I want to use the same 6 pokemon every time I play any pokemon game, I just want to be able to use my favorites against friends once I've already beaten the game. Without the ability to do that, Pokemon losses what was to me, their biggest selling point; a feeling of legacy and diversity that no other franchise could match. Now it's just another game, and I guess that's fine.

Even though I don't have a Switch, being unable to get a pokemon because its "too high of a level" has immediately turned me off from wanting to get this.
