手/te: hand
作る/tsukuru: make: 作り/tsukuri [noun]
手作り/tezukuri: handmade

手作り/tezukuri can be used for any handmade things, including food, furniture, clothes, etc.

手作りのケーキ/tezukuri no ke-ki (handmade cake)
手作りの弁当/tezukuri no bento (handmade lunch box)
手作りのとうふ/tezukuri no toufu (handmade tofu)
手作りのいす/tezukuri no isu (handmade chair)
手作りのシャツ/tezukuri no syatsu (handmade shirt)
これ手作り?/kore tezukuri? (Is it handmade?)

If you want to use it as a verb, 手作りする/tezukuri suru is the word to use!

ケーキを手作りする/ke-ki o tezukuri suru (make a homemade cake)
とうふを手作りする/toufu o tezukuri suru (make a homemade tofu)

Of course, you can use it as the past tense.

いすを手作りした/isu o tezukuri shita (made a handmade chair)
