Paco de Lucia pays close attention to his hands and is concerned with the overall integrity of the piece. Grisha has each technique squarely down to the point he can exectute them almost unconciously. This is the true joy of listening to him and watching him play. Most players have to watch their hands. No such neccesity for Grisha. He is my favorite player to watch.

I thought his neck and face were saying, "There is a middle I am reaching to hear in this guitar and if is not coming out to me. In that moment I am let down and then, I strike the next note in hope of getting what I did not get on the last note." (Either it's there or it's not, that's all).

for a beginner get a yamaha flamenco guitar for 200.00 or 150.00 dollars with some flamenco strings.... I have one that I played for many years. you don't need to get the higher end....a real flamenco guitar will cost you over a 1000 dollar or over 800 in some caes...every guitar is different...even if its expensive , it doesn't mean its a perfect constructed guitar.... sometimes a cheap one made the right way will sound better thann the expensive one..you need to find out by knowing and trying.

It was this video that led me to buying a Cordoba 45FP. I can now play the Fandango that Grisha is playing in this video. Let me tell you, it sounds pretty much the same. I think that the 45 FPs are pretty consistent.

@HJF091173 I think many maestros would disagree with what you are saying. There exists two or more versions of flamenco, the one that exists in small circles Puro, Commercial (rumba/tangos) and the Musical side which is the part of flamenco guitarists around the world are interested in, in the intellectual compositions and analysis of pieces. Paco was all of them, he gained commercial success by playing very advanced compositions without losing the essence of flamenco. As a non Flamenco I can never live like a flamenco but there are many fantastic players around the world.

I went to go play this guitar based on this video. I currently have a $300 classical guitar: Lucida Artista LG-715. It sounds good to me but the lack of a tap plate and the high action made me decide to get a true Flameco guitar to learn on. In particular, the LG-715 gives me great difficulty when doing legato phrasing. I played the Cordoba 45FM for 10-15 min and I did not find it better or superior to my LG-715 in any way. Legato phrases were still difficult to get to sound out and the action felt as high as a classical guitar. I left the store disappointed. Unfortunately, Cordoba is about the only brand of Flamenco guitar that you can find in Texas w/o having to pay thousands of dollars. Since the 45 is of the Espana series, I expected it to be set up already for flamenco playing.

The reason why GS people let this guy to beat the shit out of the guitars is just to proof the mechanical strength of their stocks, I would nowhere approve his playing as flamenco

Aunque siempre puntualizan

Grisha, could you please tell me what is meant by the Flamenco "sizzle" ? I hear the term, but what to get a more precise answer if possible. Different Flamenco guitars will have different tonal qualities of course. I am not a big fan of the "tinny" sound really. Thanks.
