Tae Kwon Do, like contemporary Chinese wushu, has become a performance art and has lost the true martial spirit. Even an untrained child can break those flimsy oven-dried boards.

I really find TKD as an underrated martial art. It’s commonly dissed for not being realistic or effective, and I’ll agree that it isn’t complete, but if you specialize in it, you’ll never need to worry about any other style that includes or excludes kicking, sweeping, spinning attacks, or anything. I see it being used successfully a lot, not always just on its own, and yet I’ve some of the best purists do extraordinarily well at fighting other styles it’s commonly weaker against, so it comes down to the individual, timing, endurance, tact, if they are studying their opponent, looking for weaknesses, baiting, understanding their movement, how much they practice, and what all they do outside of it that enhances their abilities. Really one well timed and placed kick can end the fight in half a second, not just the head, rib cage, legs, back…. You name it

I have trained taekwondo for more than 25 years. Whenever I tried any other sport teakwondo skills helped me. Gymnastics,tennis(footwork),tabletennis,other martial arts,goalkeeping and dancing. I would say that taekwondo is one of the best sports to start at young age to develop multiskill talent that will translate to other sports. Few weeks ago i started to train tennis and Im 36 y old. I was way better than other people in my group that are all around 20 just because I have light feet and Im able to copy hand movement that coach showed me. Taekwondo will be sport of my choice to train with my daughter as her 1st sport
